I got a couple of texts that looked like they were from Nationwide, so I rang them up. They checked my account and said there was no unusual stuff going on. Turns out, those texts were just scams from the number 08004643063.

I had my doubts about this particular number, and my concerns were validated by this website. That said, I took the precaution of reaching out to the Fraud department of NW directly using the contact number listed on their official site. They confirmed that they had indeed blocked a transaction of £1.99. Interestingly, their toll-free number - 0800 464 30 51 - is quite similar to the dubious one that ends in ...63. It seems to me that banks tend to wait for customers to approach them when card issues arise, instead of relying on automated messages with the usual "press this or press that" instructions. If you happen to receive a call like this, make sure to get in touch with your bank directly, rather than using the potentially fraudulent number! The good news is, they are in the process of sending me out a new card.

I received a couple of calls from scammers trying to peddle their automated nonsense. They claimed to be from Nationwide, but oddly enough, they mentioned the name of someone who hasn’t lived here in over five years! Proper fraud hotlines usually involve an actual person on the line, not some robotic voice urging you to press a million buttons for a 'fraud check.' Quite dodgy, to say the least!

Got a call from 08004643063 but didn’t pick up. After checking the number and reading the comments here, I rang my bank. They told me they hadn’t contacted me and there was nothing odd going on with my account, so it's clearly a con. Be careful, and if your bank rings you, always tell them you’ll call back using the number you already have for them, not the one that just called or any new one they might offer. A genuine bank won’t mind you doing that, but scammers definitely will.

I received a notification indicating that my card had been charged for £14.99 by someone.

It was definitely Nationwide, but at first I got really spooked 'cause a woman robot was talking for a bit. I hung up quick and called the customer service number on the back of my card. Turns out some scammer in the US tried to use my card! They blocked it right away and said I'll get a new one in about a week. Really glad I called them back! What a relief!

yep, sounds like Nationwide for sure, but when some female robot started speaking for a few minutes at the start I got really nervous, ended the call and rang the Nationwide helpline from the number on the back of my card. Seems like some scammer in the US had tried to use my card, they blocked it straight away and said I'd get a replacement in about a week. So happy I double checked! what a relief!

I got a bit wary when this number rang me, so I decided to ring up Nationwide customer support. They told me the call was legit. Apparently, they called because I hadn't responded to a text message they sent earlier. They had frozen my card after a small online purchase that seemed a bit unusual compared to my regular spending habits. After checking my recent transactions with me, they lifted the block since everything was fine. Even though I wouldn’t normally answer unexpected calls about my bank account, it definitely paid off to contact Nationwide to clear things up.

This really is a proper Nationwide number, if I wasn't sure I rang 0800 0556611, which is the card fraud line from Nationwide's website. They told me there was suspicious stuff going on with my card and said 0800 4643063 is the fraud team’s number.

This is a Nationwide number and you can find it on their official site. Still, most folks are smart enough not to answer calls like this straight away and prefer to ring the bank using the phone number they have on their card. This call here is legit, but loads of others out there are definitely not.
