How come Virgin Media lets this person pretend they’re calling from them? Having over 40,000 searches just shows how much time folks are wasting instead of getting on with proper work.

For the last two weeks, I've had a steady stream of calls from this number on both my landline and mobile. Since I tend to ignore calls from unknown numbers, I’m not overly concerned. However, I wanted to alert others that I've now begun receiving calls from 08001836403 as well. Best of luck to them trying to reach me, as I’m not familiar with that one either!

They keep ringin me on my mobile now my home phone too. I got this call before n told vm about it. Our phone system blocks calls unless caller ID is given but these fraudsters still get past. Vm told me to stay sharp and never give any personal info. If its real, vm already knows all about your account. Really worry about older people falling for this. Only clue is if u dont use broadband. Stay safe everyone.

Got a call from Virgin Media after visiting their store to check out our package. When I rang Virgin back, they already knew about that number contacting us. The woman on the phone had an unprofessional laugh and an Asian accent, and she kept asking for our info, which seemed dodgy. Don't call us with vague questions trying to fish for details. Just tell us straight up what package we’re on and confirm our address instead of asking like it’s a quiz. Virgin Media isn’t doing themselves any favours with call centre staff like that.

Been gettin nonstop calls all last week, none left a message tho. Accidentally answered once and this Asian woman started chatting about a Virgin Media deal. I told her I was too busy - glad I did, cause I had no clue it was some kind of scam. Good job I hung up straight away.

This particular number first contacted me more than a year back, and I was quite wary of it. I told them I was occupied and asked if they could ring me later. They went silent until today. I just did a bit of digging online and uncovered all sorts of scam alerts about it. I wonder why Virgin can’t put a stop to this nonsense?

Today, I received a call from this number, and it's obvious it's a scam. My husband was at work when they rang, and the caller claimed she’d call back when he was home. I pointed out to her that she could evidently see we hardly use this line since the call quality is terrible. We're still holding out for Virgin to fix the issue, as it’s been problematic ever since we got the service.

A woman said she was from Virgin Media offering some sort of 'broadband optimisation' service. She wanted my postcode saying it was needed for security. I wasn’t comfortable giving it and asked her to explain what exactly 'broadband optimisation' involved. She gave a vague answer for a while then just cut the call. Felt a bit suspicious to me.

This number rings me almost daily, even though I’m pretty blunt and straight up say I know it’s a scam. They say they’re from Virgin Media, usually a young woman with an Asian accent who I struggle to understand half the time. I’ve signed up with the TPS now, fingers crossed that helps. By the way, can anyone explain why I still get calls from them even though I’ve blocked the number on my phone? It baffles me.

Gets through about 3 or 4 times every day, but they never leave a message. I’m stuck in bed cause I work night shifts. Proper fed up with these calls. Contacted Virgin Media’s complaints team and they said it’s not them.

I recently received a missed call from this number, and I’m curious about how to put a stop to it. Any advice on what actions I can take?

They ring me every day on both my landline and mobile. I’ve blocked them on my mobile now. Every voicemail from this number is just silence. If they were for real, they’d leave a proper message, so I just block any unknown numbers that keep calling without leaving anything.

This number rings me at least once daily. I haven't picked up any of their calls, but out of curiosity, I attempted to return the call to figure out who's trying to get hold of me. However, they don't answer. I've since decided to block the number altogether.

Got three calls like that this week and a few before, all asking for someone else’s name. Funny enough, I actually know the person they’re after and they do have Virgin, but we certainly don’t. Does anyone know how to get them to stop ringing our mobile?

This number has called me a couple of times. The latest was tonight around 9pm. Some Indian bloke called my mobile, asking for my husband and saying he’s from Virgin Media about broadband optimisation. When I asked why he’s calling me if he wants my husband, he just kept going on about optimisation. He also asked for my address. I told him I wasn’t interested and if I needed anything, I’d get in touch with Virgin myself. This has got scam written all over it! Don’t answer or engage. My tip - just tell them to buzz off!

Spoke to a woman, quite hard to catch what she was saying, maybe Asian accent, saying she was from virgin media. Kept going on about a deal with a sim and loads of data for just £5. I told her to send any info by post if she was legit. She kept asking for my postcode, didn’t seem happy when I stayed quiet or refused to share anything. Eventually she hung up after I said I was just messing about to keep her off bothering others.

I just got a call from a lady with an Asian accent claiming she was from Virgin Media and that I qualified for some kind of rewards. She did know my name but said it wrong. She asked me to share the first line of my address and postcode, but I said no since her number wasn’t a Virgin Media one. Then she said she had loads of my info, like passwords and bank details, and just needed me to confirm. I still said no and told her to send me something in writing by post or email. She then hurriedly said something and hung up. Feels like a scam to me, I’ll double-check with Virgin Media later.

A caller reached out, claiming to represent Virgin Media, and insisted they could cut my bills. They even asked for a snippet of my password. I politely declined and ended the conversation. However, over the next couple of hours, I received two more calls where they promptly hung up the moment I responded. This feels rather intrusive, bordering on harassment, so I’m considering reporting it to the authorities. It's quite baffling that telecom companies aren’t stepping up to safeguard their users! It seems like these pestering calls are just a sly method for them to extract additional fees from us, possibly through call blocking services and whatnot. The existence of these tools implies they certainly have the capability to tackle this escalating issue!

I received a call from this number on my phone, but I tend to steer clear of calls from unfamiliar or withheld numbers. Curiosity got the better of me, so I looked it up online, only to discover it belongs to a different provider from the one I’m currently using. I’m quite perplexed - how on earth did this company manage to get hold of my number without my consent?

Just got a call from this number a little while ago. The bloke claimed he was from Virgin and said he had all my account details. He said someone needed to visit my home to improve the WiFi speed. I told him no thanks, I’m a telecom engineer and can handle it myself, no need for their assistance. Then he went on about security stuff and mentioned installing an app on all my devices. He was really insistent about sending an engineer round. Needless to say, I declined. Honestly, seems like a scam to me.

I’ve been getting calls from this number for ages, probably over two weeks now, and just ignored them. After looking it up here, I’m glad I didn’t pick up. This number, plus another really similar one (like someone else mentioned here), 0800 408 9340, are definitely scams. I've saved both in my phone as 'scam, don’t answer'. Also had a missed call this week from 020 7059 4000, which rang before pretending to be Virgin. When I phoned Virgin to check, they said it was a scam and nobody from there had phoned me.

Got a call earlier from Virgin, this lady with an Asian accent saying there's a special offer just for me. I asked what the offer was and she said they could give me a sim card for my phone. Someone rang me saying they were from Virgin Media and tried selling me some sort of broadband maintenance plan. When I asked why I’d need it, they said it’s because my internet runs slow and their call centre staff can’t sort it out. If he’s really from VM, he’s not doing a great job convincing me, especially by admitting the company can’t fix things and would just abandon customers! But apparently, if I cough up extra cash, he’d make sure everything works fine. Yeah, right!!!

This number called my work phone and I felt i had to pick up in case it was somethin important. If I didn’t, it’d go straight to voicemail and then I’d have to call back to delete the message. So I answered with the usual office greeting, and a woman just said “hello” before hanging up on me! What’s the point of that? Such a waste of time, and there's no way that’s a proper business if they won’t even bother talkin properly.

It was Virgin ringing me up to try and push an upgrade on my TV package, but no worries, they hung up as soon as I said no. About that comment from 20/06/2016 about ex-directory numbers getting calls; honestly, once you put your phone number online anywhere, anyone can use it, no exceptions. That includes the telephone preference service too. So if you want to avoid getting calls from all those number-selling companies, whether they're legit or not, never enter your number in any online competitions, forms, or orders.

Surely not VM or Vodafone, or any real company for that matter. I used to get calls from this number back when I had an old EE contract, so I blocked it out of suspicion. But today, since I popped in an old Tesco PAYG SIM, they've called me three times already since morning. While I'm typing this quick note, they’ve called another three times. Completely mad. I've received countless calls from this number over time, and I can only expect that there'll be plenty more to come. Since they never bother to pick up when I call back, I can only surmise that it’s some charity attempting to fundraise for those poor telephone operators who are, quite ironically, unable to hear me! The most straightforward solution I've found is to invest in a caller ID phone. That way, when the phone rings, if I recognise the number, I can pick up; if not, I simply ignore it. It really does make things far easier-keeping things uncomplicated is always wise.
