I've received a correspondence from Santander, featuring the number 0800 389 6655, claiming that I owe £21.20 on my credit card. The thing is, I haven’t touched that card in ages and have actually disposed of it long ago. It worries me greatly that those who might not be as clued-up could easily get duped, as the letter appears to be quite official. They told me there’d been recent transactions on my account - like a £500 payment to HMRC, a £400 one to a car dealer, and a direct debit set up with another company. But when I asked them to prove who they really were by giving me my postcode or account number, she suddenly said she wasn’t authorised to see that info. Definitely a scam, no doubt about it!

Got a letter that looked proper legit, apparently from Santander saying I owed money even tho I just cleared my balance not long ago. The letter asked for a paymnt but the account number it gave was totally wrong. I'm currently chatting with Santander, as I just received a rather dubious call from this number claiming they had spotted a fraudulent transaction involving "Royal Mail." I confirmed I'd indeed made a payment since I’m expecting a parcel. The chap on the line mentioned that numerous folks are falling victim to this scam. He asked whether a £180 payment made in England was attributed to me, which was obviously not the case since I reside in Scotland. Then he requested that I log into my app to check my balance. Now, regrettably, I find myself in a position where I have to freeze my account and set up a new one with a fresh card. It’s truly despicable how low these scammers will stoop.
