They suggested that I call back using their official number, but I countered, insisting that since they called me, they ought to clarify the purpose of their call first. However, they were adamant about needing my verification before disclosing any details. Frustrated, I told them it seemed like a fruitless exchange and ended the call.

I recently received a call from the same number. It rang through to our business line, which is an 0800 number that redirects to my mobile. However, shortly after I picked up, the line went silent and then cut off. It seems like quite a few others are experiencing this issue too. I’ll be vigilant regarding this number. Oddly enough, we sometimes do our shopping at M&S and have a card and account with them, so it's possible that this call was an attempt to reach out for some promotion or offer we’re not familiar with.

On Saturday, we were pestered for over 200 pounds, despite having settled the payment already. While it seems their stores might still be operating on the weekend, they clearly have no respect for individual privacy. The caller returned my call, leaving a rather alarming message regarding life and death matters. It’s quite amusing, really. It’s evident that this company is likely struggling financially. I’ve submitted a complaint to M&S regarding this blatant disregard for privacy and am now awaiting their response. It seems BT has become quite lenient when it comes to blocking numbers these days. With the global economic downturn on everyone's minds, many big corporations are eager to make a quick buck. Since BT rakes in substantial profits from these calls, they show little incentive to cut off a revenue source, even if it causes some inconvenience for us ordinary folks. At the end of the day, BT is no different from any other business; if there's cash to be made, the concerns of mere customers don’t seem to bother them in the slightest.

These callers persist in ringing us, even after we've asked them to stop. It's always just silent calls, so I tend to dial 1471 to find out who they are. We've now set our phone to answerphone mode, so anyone who genuinely wishes to speak with us can leave a message. Despite having a call preference service in place, it doesn't prevent the foreign numbers from still getting through.
