Got a text earlier today saying: “Your card’s been blocked because of strange activity. Please call us urgently about your Visa Card on 08002986943.” The message was written just like that. Honestly, it sounds like a scam to me.

Got a message timestamped at 12:07 on the 5th of November, 2023, purporting to be from Barclays, alerting me about some suspicious transactions on my card and instructing me to ring this number. The thing is, I've never held an account with Barclays whatsoever! When I looked up the number, it turns out it connects to a tree surgery business in Enfield. I opted not to call the number after my online search. Quite the odd situation, isn’t it?

Got a text pretending to be from Barclaycard, saying I should get in touch. Problem is, I don’t even have a Barclaycard. Definitely a dodgy number.

Got a call claiming Barclays had frozen my card, but that’s not true. The person told me to ring this number to get it sorted out?

Avoid calling that number! I got a voicemail claiming there was unusual activity with my bank account and urged me to ring that same number. However, when I searched the number online, it came up as either "Selby & Sons Construction," "Divine International College," or "G&S Tree Felling Services." Since it can't belong to all those businesses at once, I'm pretty sure it's not Barclays either.
