I've come across EC Credit Control in New Zealand recently.

I've been inundated with phone calls on my landline from numbers that aren’t listed in any directory. I have no association with this business whatsoever. Clearly, it's a dodgy operation!

I keep receiving calls from someone purporting to be from Kiwibank, but I've never had any transactions with them. It's clearly a scam, if you ask me!

During the month of June, I received a trio of phone calls from an unknown caller. The woman on the other end mentioned something about an accident, but when I inquired how she had my number, she dodged the question and pressed on for my personal information. The fact she couldn't even provide my name raised my suspicions, so I decided to hang up. Following each call, I was bombarded with texts urging me to ring an 0800 number - 0800 269 322, to be precise - about the Accident Compensation Corporation, along with a mention of a reference number. The entire exchange felt rather unprofessional, to say the least, leading me to believe this wasn't a legitimate worker reaching out.

I received a call at about quarter to twelve this morning regarding an account update. They assured me they would be sending a letter and took my address down. I'm feeling rather anxious about it all, hoping everything's alright.

I picked up the phone, but the caller just disconnected on me. Shortly after, I received a text message purporting to be from ASB Bank, instructing me to ring them back and reference a ticket number mentioned in the message. Given that I don’t have any accounts or interactions with ASB, it's clear this is likely a scam of some sort.

I've been inundated with calls from this number, and every time I pick up, there's just silence on the other end...until today, that is! I'd the misfortune of dealing with a rather abrasive woman who demanded that I verify my personal information. When I asked her where she was calling from, she straight-up refused to divulge that detail. Instead, she resorted to issuing threats, claiming they would escalate the situation and make a note of my so-called refusal to cooperate. Can you believe it? What a farcical situation! I simply cut the call while she was still rambling on about her threats. Not long after, I received a text instructing me to ring another number. Not a chance!

Received a call from this number. My phone's got caller ID, so I was able to see who it was. It also has an answering function that I've relied on for a fair few years now, and I've got a little recorded greeting that seems to do the trick. "Please leave a message after the beep, and I'll get back to your number. If there's no message left, you won't hear from me. Cheers!"

I've been receiving calls from this number where they either ring and then cut off, or allow you to pick up and remain silent. It seems like they’re trying to bait you into returning the call. Oddly enough, just after the call disconnects, I get a text that says, "Hello Caitlyn, please reach out to 0800 436 322 about QBE and mention reference number 1720661." Here's the thing: I’ve held onto this phone number for over a decade, straight out of the box. There has never been anyone named Caitlyn associated with it. My name doesn’t even start with a C (or K), and it doesn’t sound anything like that name. Plus, I’m definitely not female. It’s clear these are scammers fishing for personal information. When I tried to get my details removed, they bombarded me with all sorts of personal questions to try and draw me in. My advice? Just block the number and save yourself the hassle.

Today at precisely 15:05 NZ time, my phone rang from the number 0800 269 322, but I opted not to pick it up. They didn’t leave behind any message, which I found rather peculiar. Cheers! Rachael Stevenson, in case you need to reach me, my mobile number is 021 149 8104.

Received a rather odd phone call from some chap claiming to be from waste management. He was keen on getting me to verify my personal information, specifically my date of birth and address. I informed him that we currently don't use their services, so I wasn't inclined to provide any details. He insisted that we had an account with them at some point, and I had to remind him it was two years ago! After a bit of back-and-forth, he mentioned he would send me an email about it and promptly ended the call. Honestly, folks, be wary and don’t share your information!

I received a call late in the evening from someone purporting to be from waste management. When I pressed her for the reason behind her request for my details and queried why I hadn't received any communication from them, she was at a total loss for words. I pay for my bin service upfront every year, so really, there's no way I could possibly owe anything! I've decided not to ring them back.

I keep getting calls from this number, and they never say a word-just one ring and then silence. I tried calling back, and surprise, they cut the line again! On my second attempt, I finally managed to have a chat with someone named "Jimmy," but I couldn't help myself and ended up laughing and hanging up on him! What a laugh!

I've received multiple calls from this number, and they've left a message. If you need to reach Steven Coluquhoun, the number to dial is 0800 269 322, and please mention reference number 1683390. However, I'm beginning to suspect this might be a scam. I've already checked with my accountant, and they advised against sharing any personal information. Best to be cautious!

I used to work at ECCC, and I must say, there's a rather naive presumption in your message that all claimed debts are accurate, which simply isn’t the reality. Take one of your clients, ACC, for example-utterly untrustworthy, if you ask me. They've got corruption running through their veins.

It's rather peculiar, isn't it? You get these incessant calls from random numbers, and all they do is ring then abruptly cut off. It's as if they're just playing games or seeking some sort of reaction without uttering a single word. Quite vexing, really!

I’ve discovered that the so-called Head of Collections mentioned in their dodgy correspondence is a complete fabrication. The 0800 number they provided is no longer active. In fact, there’s no legitimate debt to speak of. This is clearly a fraudulent operation linked to Turners Group.

Received a call on Friday at half seven in the evening on the 12th of April, 2019. The caller inquired after my father, but he wasn’t around at the time. They left a message along with a reference number, urging us to get in touch before the 16th of April, 2019. I just attempted to return the call, but it only rang twice before cutting off or it was constantly engaged. A quick search online revealed that many others have reported calls from this 0800269322 number as well. Definitely smells like a scam!

Had a suspicious voicemail pop up on my answering machine, claiming they 'urgently needed to speak to me' and throwing out some number without any context. Quite strange, really, as I owe nothing to anyone. They’ve not bothered to call again, so I suspect it’s just a bunch of con artists.

I can’t help but chuckle at all these remarks! I once worked for EC Credit Control in Napier, New Zealand - a debt recovery outfit, you see. That’s why many of you are being asked to verify your information; it’s a legal obligation. Channel, Shayl, and Jimmy? They’re actual people I’ve collaborated with during my time there. The reason their names pop up in your messages is that your debts are associated with their accounts. You’re welcome to discuss your situation with anyone from the office, provided you confirm your full name and date of birth. Perhaps it’s time for everyone to keep an eye on their finances a bit better!

I’m starting to question the authenticity of this company. They claim to be situated in Hamilton, but after perusing all the complaints, I reckon I’ll steer clear of returning their calls. I've had to block this number a whopping seven times now, and every single time they jiggle about with a new number in their text messages! Quite the shady operation if you ask me. So, I’ll pass on EC CREDIT, cheers!

Allegedly, this number belongs to a debt collection agency called EC Credit; however, the details they’ve provided - such as the phone number, banking information, and email address - don’t add up. It seems like they’re tricking individuals into "settling debts". Whatever you do, steer clear and don’t part with your cash!
