Called twice over the past few days. The second call was a polite-sounding young woman claiming to be from the DWP. She asked my elderly dad to grab his bank statement and read out the six-digit sort code plus account info. Thankfully, Dad was sharp enough to say we never share that kind of info on the phone. The moment he said that, she just cut the call. My Dad’s been retired for years, and I’m almost certain the DWP already have his payment details. It’s just disgusting how some folks target older people like that - truly heartless behaviour.

Got a call from this number but missed it and no voicemail was left. Looking at other people's experiences, it's hard to tell if it's something legit or just another scam. If it’s really from the DWP, you'd think they'd at least leave a message, right? Quite annoying!

Got a call a few days back, they kept asking stuff but I never gave my name. Didn’t share any bank info or my NI number either.

Looks like it’s the Department for Work and Pensions calling, which makes sense cos I’ve been waiting for a callback from them since April about buying back some National Insurance credits for my retirement.

I got a call after I supposedly put in a complaint with the DWP, which I didn't actually do. They wanted to know my name and where I live. I told them I’d prefer to get any pension info sent through the post since I wasn’t too happy chatting over the phone. Honestly, not sure if this was legit or just some dodgy scam.

They said it was about Pension Credit, asked for my name, address, and DOB. Then they told me they couldn’t go on with the call cos I got a couple of questions wrong.

Today I got a call about my pension, but I told them I only deal with that stuff through letters, not over the phone. After I said that, they just hung up straight away.

A couple days back, my mate got a call asking for her personal info about her pension credit claim. She told them they already had her details through the claim, so she didn’t share anything and thought it might be a scam. The caller asked her to call back on 0800 023 2076. I tried ringing a different DWP number, 0800 169 0133, but they couldn’t say if that first number was officially from the DWP.

Someone rang and asked if my husband was available for a chat. He wasn’t sure who it was, so he said he wasn’t free. The caller then wanted to verify our address and mentioned he’d be sending a letter to prove he was from the DWP.

So this number called me again today, 31 March 2022, around 10:30 in the morning. It’s apparently from work and pensions. It’s the second time in just a couple of weeks they’ve rung me. They wanted to check if my address is still correct for sending post.

I got a call on a Sunday afternoon from someone saying they were with the DWP. I said I found it hard to believe they'd be working over the weekend, and the person said "Yeah, they keep us busy all weekend, mate." It felt off to me, especially since they called me "mate" - not something I'd expect from an official DWP worker. So I ended the call. Plus, I'm pretty sure the DWP doesn’t even have my old listed phone number.

The number actually belonged to the DWP - they rang me to verify it was really me applying for my state pension through the gov.uk site. I called them back using that same number, and they explained that all new pension claims done online have to be verified like this or your pension payments might get held up. If you’re applying for your state pension for the first time, I’d seriously suggest returning their call to avoid any delays with your payment.

Got a call from what I believe was the official DWP number, checking my identity because I’d applied for my state pension through the government’s website. I rang them straight back on that same number, and they told me that all new pension applications made online need this kind of verification. Apparently, if you don’t respond to their call, it could hold up your pension payments. So, if you’ve recently applied for your state pension, I’d strongly suggest you return the call to avoid any delays in getting your money.

This appears to be the Department for Work and Pensions, likely in relation to your pension. If you've reached out to them via letter, instead of sending a written reply, they may opt to give you a ring to avoid the hassle of drafting a response. It's advisable not to pick up the call; they should eventually get back to you in writing. However, should you choose to answer, be ready to share a lot of sensitive personal details to verify your identity - mind you, they don't offer any verification of their own identity. It’s probably best to avoid answering and instead give them a call using one of their 0800 numbers, especially if you have an inkling about the matter at hand. This way, you can ensure you're communicating with the right folks.

I've been inundated by relentless calls from 0800232076. It’s like they have a clock set to ping me every hour, day in and day out for an entire week! I’ve chosen not to pick up or engage with them at all. Wasn't there talk of some governmental action to tackle these annoying calls? Seems like nothing’s been done yet, though. Just wondering, David from Milton Keynes.

Received a rather peculiar call from this number, inquiring about my address. They identified themselves as part of the pensions service and mentioned having some letters bounced back. When I pressed for more information, they became quite cagey, claiming they couldn’t disclose anything because of confidentiality reasons. Funny enough, I just flipped the script and told them the very same thing!
