My laptop's been taken over by a notification that purports to be from Windows support. I tried ringing 08002081303, but the number came up as unrecognised. It seems a bit dodgy to me, but I can't say for sure if it's a scam or not.

My IT mate told me this number’s a con. I got it after clicking on a pic in some Facebook group, though I might’ve accidentally tapped something else by mistake. My screen suddenly flooded with loads of pop-ups. One of them said it was from the Windows Defender Security Centre, but that was a load of rubbish. It even locked my screen claiming it was to protect me from identity theft. My tech mate had to sort out Firefox and reset things to get rid of the problem. I tried ringing the number back, but something felt off about the reply, so I just hung up. Definitely wasn’t a genuine call.
