i got a call from what seemed like a legit hsbcs mortgage number but i wasn’t comfortable answering their security questions over the phone so i told them to add a message to my account instead. i then rang the usual hsbc customer service line shortly after and did the security checks properly, and the rep confirmed and read back the note the mortgage team had left me.

I got a call from a number that was supposedly from HSBC Mortgages. Since it was an unexpected call, I didn’t want to answer any security questions. Instead, I told them I'd rather call the usual customer service line myself and get properly put through.

The site appears rather suspect and my firewall issued a warning about its potential risk. got a ring earlier from 08001696333 but i was busy talking on another line. looked it up and most results mentioned hsbc but the real hsbc number seems to be one digit less. after looking a bit deeper, i stumbled upon a "credit union" site using the exact number i got called from. the site looked sketchy and my firewall warned me it’s dangerous. my guess is it’s a scam, making the number just a tiny bit longer than hsbc to trick people into answering or calling back.
