I had a ring on my home telephone from this number. After I ended the call, they immediately tried to reach me again on my mobile, delivering the identical pre-recorded message. Curiosity piqued, I dialled 1471 on my landline to get the number and decided to give them a call back. To my surprise, I was met with a pre-recorded announcement claiming it was the fraud team from Barclays, keen to verify some dubious activity linked to my account. If that were indeed the case, why didn’t they bother to have an actual representative from Barclays get in touch? Who exactly are these people?
