A woman answered who sounded really impatient and quite rude, she was pretty sharp and said she’d check the line. This is the official BT support line. When I got my new BT landline phones from Argos, the manual clearly listed this number to call for help with phone setup if you run into any problems. Doesn't matter if you've got a BT landline or not, it's just there to assist with the BT phones themselves.

I reckon something similar happened to me. It seems like it’s nothing dodgy, just something BT or businesses and public services might do. I think my phone is set up to block calls from private numbers? Anyway, a local electrician called me as expected, and everything was fine. But the call showed up just like someone else mentioned - as an 0800 number, the one listed above actually. Maybe there’s some kind of BT service that lets you dial through a sort of proxy number to get around phones blocking withheld numbers? Just my two cents though, might be wrong. Either way, it’s obviously nothing suspicious - I chatted with my electrician, got a quote, and the number is just a harmless 0800 anyway.

I think I might have got it wrong, sorry about that. Just called the number and it turns out it’s a BT helpline. My missus must’ve phoned them when I was asleep or something. So please disregard what I said before about some electrician. I’m not even with BT, so it must’ve been her on the phone, not me.

Last night (31 Oct) I called a mate, and she told me she’d call me straight back, which she did a few mins later. I thought both calls would show up on my phone screen but hers never appeared.
