Weird thing is, loads of other folks are saying this number is from BG. But I just got a call from someone claiming to be N Power, saying they were phoning to sort out renewing my contract. They kept telling me not to chat with any third party companies because they'd try to get me to switch my deal. It all felt a bit pushy, like they wanted my info no matter what. When I said I wasn’t interested, they wouldn’t back off, so I just ended the call.

It's strange that loads of people here say this number is British Gas. Just before, I was checking my British Gas account online, trying to see if I could save any money on my bills (barely £12 a year, so not really worth it). On 20th September 2017 at about 7.20pm, I got a call from 08001077473. The lady who answered didn’t say my name, just said her name was Claire and she was from BG. Today, I got a call from a woman claiming to be with BG Customer Services. She mentioned I could save about £11 a year on gas and £10 on electricity, but I thought it wasn’t really worth changing just yet. Before we ended, she said she’d send me some information to look over. It was only afterwards that I decided to look up the number, and it looks like it might be linked to a scam. What worries me is how she knew exactly when my contract ended if she wasn’t really from BG. We’ll see if I get any paperwork through - if not, it’s probably a scam as many suspect. On the plus side, she didn’t ask for any personal info, which is a relief.

Got a call tonight from someone claiming to be British Gas. They knew my name and the first part of my postcode, then asked me to confirm the rest - which I didn’t do. They said my tariff was about to end, but I knew that wasn’t right. I asked them to tell me my tariff details and when it was supposed to expire, but they wouldn’t and just kept saying it was due to data protection. They kept pressing for the rest of my postcode too. I told them the only way I’d accept contact was by letter or email. That’s where the chat ended.

I keep getting calls from them asking for some bloke, but it's clear they've got the wrong number saved. They never seem to want to fix or update their records, just keep ringing me up searching for this guy. Feels like there's no way to sort this out since they can't be faffed to sort their database properly.

I've had a few calls from people saying they're from British Gas, but when I looked up the number on their official website, it didn't match at all. Seems dodgy to me, especially since they ask for personal details under the pretence of checking accounts. I'd advise against picking up and just block the number. They also try to lure you in by claiming free insulation offers. Remember, anyone can get an 0800 number, so just because it’s a free call doesn’t mean it’s legit. Don’t get caught out!

I’m in the same boat! I attempted to track down the number on the British Gas site, but it came back saying “unable to locate...” Clearly, it’s a dodgy operation.
