8 yearsI spotted this number on several sites all saying it was Amazon Kindle Support, so I gave it a go. The bloke on the other end was quite convincing, telling me I had an Alureon Infection and that 26 hackers globally were targeting me. He mentioned I’d need all sorts of stuff like anti-hacking software, a hacker removal tool, and better network security. Then he said because I’m an Amazon Kindle user, he could sort it all for around half an hour and only charge me £99, which was apparently cheaper than doing it myself for £199. I politely ended the call and decided to run a thorough scan on my system - everything came back clean. After that, I rang Amazon directly, and they told me what I actually needed was a simple software update for my Kindle, which was free of charge. So, heads up - if you ever have issues, just go directly through Amazon and let them call you back.
