They say they're UK Infotech Limited based at 99 Rectory Road DEAL CT14 9NB. The phone number they use is 01212862200, but that's actually a Birmingham area code. I've dealt with other firms who might be using the 0800868671 toll free number. Total scam, watch out!

Got a pop-up on my computer with a voice saying someone was trying to get into my login and bank info. Luckily I looked up the number they wanted me to call and ended up on this site. I rebooted my PC and ran a virus check just to be sure.

Received a rather alarming message indicating that I'd been blocked. Feeling quite stressed, I decided to ring the number. To my dismay, they accessed my computer and then tried to extort £550 for supposed cleaning services. Naturally, I flat out refused and ended the call. The hassle they've caused is infuriating! Now I can't even boot into safe mode on my Windows 10 machine. When I attempted to contact them again, they were utterly unhelpful, insisting that I either pay up or take my device to a tech shop! Honestly, how foolish do I feel in this moment of vulnerability?

I'm relieved I came across these comments first. I was freaking out thinking someone was trying to hack into my Facebook, bank info and pictures on my PC, saying my computer was infected with a virus. Definitely avoid calling this number.

No need to freak out. This is a con aimed at frightening you on purpose. Just shut down Edge or open task manager and stop the program. If your computer is nagging you to do something right away, it’s probably a scam. Any message telling you to ring a number because you’ve won the lottery or some prize? That’s a scam too. Stay calm. Get advice from your family or mates first. Always be suspicious of these calls.

My stepdad recently fell prey to a dodgy scheme, and although I reckon he hasn’t divulged any personal details, he's quite anxious about it all. What sort of guidance should I offer him to ease his mind?

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT engage with these scammers - complete hoax! I had this alarming pop-up that threw me into a bit of a tizzy, so I foolishly rang the number. However, I was determined not to divulge any personal information. When they asked for my name, I cheekily responded that I might as well be the Queen herself! I then told them that I was utterly unconvinced they were legitimate and that I wouldn't share a thing until they could furnish some proof of their identity. Their reply? “Well, enjoy being hacked!” To which I countered, “The message says my Facebook and credit card info are at risk, but I actually don't possess either!” After this, they abruptly hung up. I promptly shut down my computer and rebooted it, and luckily, everything seems to be functioning perfectly now!

We had the exact same thing today. A message popped up saying it was from Microsoft, telling me to ring a number or my computer would stop working. The number led to a call centre in India. They didn’t clearly say who they were but claimed they were from Microsoft. They tried to get me to let them access my laptop remotely, which instantly made me wary. They called again but I ignored it. I really hope Microsoft and the cops are doing something about these con artists by now. Total scammers!

I received a rather alarming call claiming that my laptop was compromised and that I ought to cough up £199.99 plus VAT to resolve the issue, or else I'd be left with a useless device. Naturally, I shut my laptop down, rebooted it, and everything returned to normal. The whole thing was supposedly from a 'free help line' for Windows, but honestly, it felt like a load of nonsense!

A message suddenly showed up on my laptop, so I called the number from my phone since I couldn't close the window. A woman with a foreign accent answered and asked for my username and password to assist me. I said I couldn't remember them, then she told me to do what she said, starting with pressing the Microsoft key. I realised that would give her control over my laptop, so I stopped her and powered off the machine right away. I've restarted it and running a virus scan now. Everything seems fine up to now.

I was daft and ended up calling them back, giving away my name and number. I didn't stay on the phone long, I just hung up. Do you reckon I’m in any trouble? I’ve since rebooted my computer and ran a virus scan, looks fine so far. What should I do next?

I got this annoying popup from something called autonotifysync saying someone was trying to hack into my laptop to steal my bank and card info and I had to call a number. Oh no, I just got a message and rang the number. They said they needed remote access, then asked for my name, phone number and email, which I gave them. After that, they wanted £100, but I knew something was off and told them I wasn’t paying. The person started shouting at me and then hung up! What should I do from here??

SCAM ALERT. DONT CALL THIS NUMBER OR SHARE ANY INFO. DONT ANSWER OR ENTER USERNAME AND PASSWORD ETC. They secretly get access to your computer. Like someone said, a pop-up showed but I just rebooted my PC to make it go away. I’ll try to report this number to Crimestoppers but doubt if that actually helps!

My partner got a pop-up message that looked like it was from Microsoft, and he ended up ringing 08000868671. The person on the other end told him to download some software, which we later found out was for remote access. While he was on the phone, I got worried and tried to check his phone, finding loads online saying it was a scam. When I looked at his computer, I saw someone was controlling it remotely. I told him it was a scam, so we cut off the internet and called Microsoft directly. They confirmed it was a scam and ran a scan on our PC, thankfully everything was fine.

I rang them up myself even tho they never called me, cos I already knew they were a scam. They pretend to be from Microsoft Support and other big companies. The people on the line had names like Jack and Simon, and they're all working out of a call centre in India. It was kinda hilarious when I told them I had an MSCA cert and knew they were dodgy, they just hung up straight away.
