I think some folks are getting confused here. That number is an actual HSBC contact, you can spot it right on the back of your card. When you ring it, you’ll get the standard machine voice and HSBC’s regular ID checks. But if you get a call showing that number and it seems off, it’s probably a scammer faking it pretending to be HSBC.

Really polite bloke, if I wasn’t aware of scams I might’ve fallen for it. Said he was from NatWest, but I told him I don’t have any accounts there. Then he claimed they worked closely with NatWest, but it was actually a call from HSBC. I don’t have accounts with them either. He said there were a couple of suspicious transactions on 'my accounts' and wanted to check the account number. I said I’d hang up and ring my bank myself. That’s when he got rude, told me to go **** myself and just cut the call.

This number is fake. The scammer pretends to be from HSBC and asks you to verify the number on your bank card. They then tell you to move your funds to a “safe” account and say they’ll ring you back after the transfer. But don’t trust them - they won’t call again and end up nicking your cash.

SCAM ALERT!!
Received a call claiming to be from the fraud department at HSBC (funny enough, they used the number printed on my debit card, which is a classic tactic known as 'spoofing' and raises a red flag). The caller seemed to know my mother’s maiden name, dropped hints about some dodgy emails I'd received lately, and then attempted to persuade me to transfer my funds to a 'new' account created in MY NAME.

PLEASE DO NOT MOVE YOUR MONEY. When I decided to ring the HSBC fraud hotline from another device, he caught on to what I was doing and urged me to hang up, insisting I was 'holding up the queue.'

I dunno, I didn't pick up. I ain't got any accounts with HSBC so this has gotta be a dodgy call if they say they're from HSBC. Probably one of those spoofing things where they fake the number so it looks like it’s coming from HSBC, but really they’re calling from somewhere else far away.

**WARNING** **SCAM ALERT** This number called me loads of times. They already had some personal info about me. I almost sent money because they sounded really urgent and the call showed up as from HSBC - I didn’t think it was fake. They asked me to confirm my account balance and recent transactions, seemed legit. I hesitated and checked my HSBC app, realising HSBC would never ask you to transfer money. So glad I didn’t fall for it!

Got a call from someone claiming to be HSBC, sounded pretty legit at first. They had my name and even my account number right, said there was an attempt to change my address and phone details. I got a bit wary though after checking some reviews on here and seeing loads of scam reports. Then they started asking me security questions - that’s when I said I’d ring HSBC myself and hung up. They tried to keep me on the line, pushing for info, but luckily I didn’t give anything away. Called HSBC and they confirmed it was a scam all along.

This number kept phoning my daughter loads today. The bloke sounded really believable. They tried to get her to transfer money from her savings to her main account and then onto a different one. WATCH OUT!! It doesn’t really matter if the number is actually from HSBC or not. Scammers have faked every phone number from all banks now, so always treat any call like it’s a con. If your bank rings you, listen carefully to what they say but don’t give out any info or do anything right away. Hang up, check your line is clear, then ring your bank back using the number on the back of your card. Don’t leave it too long though, sometimes the call might be genuine, and there could be an issue with your account that needs sorting, but you’ll only be sure if YOU ring the bank yourself.

I reckon this could be a genuine HSBC contact, but from my experience, if this number tries to reach you, it's best to treat it with scepticism. Not long ago, I received a call from a well-spoken individual claiming to represent HSBC, claiming there was some suspicious activity on my account. I smartly suggested I was occupied and asked if they could ring me back in thirty minutes. Following that, I contacted HSBC directly and they assured me that no such call had been made to me. Long story short, he asked for the credit card I used to book, and then wanted another card number, which I didn’t hand over.
