Got an email that looked like it was from Halifax, but there were no actual account details in it - just the last bit of my postcode. Honestly, I reckon it's one of the smarter scams I've come across, feels kinda dangerous because of how convincing it was. The ending of the email included loads of what seemed like genuine bank info, like references to Lloyds branches and mentioning H as connected to Bank of Scotland. There were plenty of phone numbers, links and stuff that looked real enough to make you want to double-check.

Seems like they’re making a comeback with the same scam. Got an email claiming to be from Halifax PLC asking if we wanted to switch to paperless statements. We already have that set up, plus the account number they mentioned wasn’t ours at all. If you get a message like this, make sure to double check the account number first.

Yeah, this number is definitely from Halifax Bank. I phoned their customer service about something usual and they asked me if I was okay with them sending an automated call to get feedback on how things went. The call came from this number and you had to press keys to rate how useful the adviser was and stuff like that. So if others here got scammy calls from this number, maybe it’s been compromised somehow. Not really sure what rating to give it here, so I’m gonna go with ‘Neutral’.

They already knew our name and landline number, then asked for our address, saying they’d stopped some suspicious activity on Amazon and M&S. It felt dodgy, so I said I’d check with the bank myself. They got a bit rude and said “that’s not how it works.” I got two more calls before I could ring up the bank, but I just hung up and blocked the number. When I finally spoke to my bank, they had no clue about any of it. Definitely a SCAM. Watch out!!

08000729778 is an Amazon Prime scam, really clever stuff. I was trying to cancel an Amazon Prime account I hadn’t signed up for. They seemed so helpful and even refunded me £79, but then claimed they’d accidentally sent £7999 to my account and told me to send it back. Thankfully, Halifax blocked the transaction. When I rang Halifax, they explained the scammers just moved money from my savings to my current account to trick me into thinking Amazon paid me. I said I’d sort it at the bank next morning, and they just laughed and hung up. Watch out for this one!

Someone said they were from Halifax fraud team. They brought up the same two direct debit tries (Vodafone and life insurance) that others have talked about here. It all seemed a bit off. When I said that, they told me to check the number, which actually shows up on Halifax’s site. Luckily, I’d heard recently how easy it is to fake caller IDs, so I wasn’t falling for it. They tried to get me to confirm my address but I didn’t give them any info.

They ring up saying your account’s been compromised and then push you to send cash to a Barclays account, number 53941346, sort code 20-11-81, under the name ‘Miss Samantha Puttock’. It’s a Barclays account they want you to shift money into from your Halifax account! Just watch out for this one and make sure older folks don’t get caught out.

Loads of calls from different people asking me to verify a payment supposedly made in Scotland. When I said yes, I had made it, the caller then mentioned a whole bunch more, including one for pornhub. I told them to stop ringing me, but then the bloke said he knew where I lived and threatened to send someone round if I didn’t answer his bloody questions, even gave my postcode. No idea how they got hold of that info.

Similar experience here, a young woman who sounded quite polite but a bit inexperienced and nervous, claimed she was calling from Halifax Fraud. She said my account had been seriously hacked and I needed to change it immediately. She then said a new account was being created for me, and at one point asked me to open my banking app and transfer money to a new payee. Honestly, this number feels EXTREMELY RISKY, so watch out!

I got a call from a woman with a British accent claiming to be from the Halifax fraud team. She said there were two dodgy transactions - one for £200 and another for £400 - on my account from online shopping. She insisted I had to transfer my money to some “safeguarding account” straight away. When I asked for her name, she said it was Stephanie Johns and even gave me a case number to make it seem legit. I told her I’d call Halifax myself and ask them to connect me to her. She was pretty polite but kept pushing. I ended the call, then rang Halifax and they confirmed it was a scam.

Got a call from a woman speaking English, saying she was from the Halifax fraud dept. She tried the same trick twice, once back in June and again just today. Claimed there were two big direct debits set to come out tonight and asked if I’d set up payments for some car firm in Scotland. Then she told me to move my money quickly. Today I got a call off a woman claiming she was from Halifax, telling me there was some dodgy activity on my bank account. She said loads of money had been taken out and that I needed to open a new account to transfer the rest in smaller chunks, like £1100, £1600 and so on, to keep it safe. He said there was a suspicious purchase flagged on my account, supposedly from Argos within the last 30 minutes, and asked if it was me.
