Since changing over from British Gas to Scottish Power, I've been getting a couple of calls each day at all sorts of times. It's getting quite frustrating, especially as I can't just tell them I'm switching suppliers to stop the calls. For the last month, I've gotten phone calls from them twice daily. I came across a clever idea on Rip off Britain and decided to try it myself: billing British Gas for the time I spend dealing with their calls. So, I’ve just sent them an invoice charging £10 for each of the 60 calls I’ve received. Curious to see how their finance team reacts to that one! It’s a pity I’m not actually a BG customer, or else I’d simply take it off my next gas bill.

For quite a while now, this number has been ringing constantly, both my landline and my mobile. I've told them repeatedly to cut it out, but they just keep on calling. Recently I tried ringing their opt-out line to get them to quit, so fingers crossed that makes a difference. Meanwhile, I'm also filing a complaint with the telephone preference service. These calls are completely unwanted, really irritating and just a nuisance. Honestly, British Gas should be ashamed for letting this happen!

I keep gettin calls from this number every day, sometimes even early morning till late evening. I do shift work at a hospital and these constant calls end up waking me right up, making me feel knackered while I’m on the job.

I get calls from 08000726900 at least three times a week, and this has been happening for around three months now. Oddly enough, the calls come through on the phone in my car, but I’m never actually in the car when they ring, so I just ignore and clear the call log. Some folks say it might be British Gas, but that can’t be right because I live in an area of the UK where there’s absolutely no mains gas, so British Gas wouldn’t have any customers here. I’m not bothering to call them back; they can keep ringing all they like, it’s their time going to waste since I’m never in the car to answer.

This number has been ringing me a few times lately on my phone. I never pick up since they never leave a voicemail. Gonna give that number zrm shared a go and see if that sorts it out. These calls are getting pretty annoying now.

I keep getting these annoying calls on my phone, sometimes even more than once a day and all the way through to about 8pm (had around 11 calls in the last month). A while back, I picked up the first of these calls whilst I was on the bus because I didn’t recognise the number, but I answered since I was expecting an important call at the time. It was British Gas, trying to “appreciate me as a customer.” The caller was really pushy and didn’t want to hear anything I said.
I haven’t been with British Gas since 1999 and have zero plans to go back.

Does anyone know how I can make the calls stop?

This number rings me all the time, like morning, afternoon and even late at night. Every time I spot it on my screen, I just hang up straight away. Hopefully they’ll get the message soon, just like every other one that keeps bothering me.

If you ring the opt-out line they provide, you get a recorded message telling you to say your name - I assume it picks up your number too... BUT this doesn’t do any good. They carry on ringing even after the 28-day period they claim it takes to process your request.

Also, beware that calling the 0800 number from a mobile isn’t free. My advice would be to get in touch with British Gas yourself, make a complaint, and warn them you'll switch suppliers if the calls don’t stop. I did that, and they haven’t phoned me since!
