I had no clue who was calling my landline, its listed as ex directory and on the TPS. When the answerphone kicked in, I could hear what sounded like a call centre in the background. Don’t know who these lot are, but getting pretty fed up with random calls like this from all sorts of numbers.

Got a call from British Gas saying starting August, I won't be able to top up my prepayment meter online anymore. They said it'd be better to have a credit meter fitted instead. They arranged for someone to come and swap it out, and now I'm just waiting for the new meter to be installed. The person who called was really friendly and helpful. Honestly, I don't get the bad reviews here, maybe some folks just aren't patient enough.

They dont handle anything related to your actual account here (even tho they do offer home care insurance, which would involve your account details if you sign up). If you want to stop getting marketing calls from British Gas, ring 0800 072 4150. Its an automated line where you'll need to provide your full name, address, and the number they called. They say it can take up to 28 days to stop the calls. Hope this info helps!

Picked up the phone and could hear voices talking in the background, then they just cut me off.

For the past week, at pretty much the same time every day, our BT Call Blocker phone has beeped once. When someone calls, they're asked to say who they are, and if they do, the phone would normally ring so we can choose to answer, decline, or block the number. But in this case, they just hang up straight away. When I checked 1471, the number showed as 08000 726898. We have a British Gas HomeCare agreement, they're the company looking after our gas and electricity. I haven't bothered calling back.

Somebody rang claiming to be from British Gas. We've just sorted our homecare renewal and they didn't even get our last name right. They refused to speak to me since I'm not the account holder. They called the next day asking for my husband again, and I told them straight I couldn’t assist as I’m not the account owner. I received a call from this number on my mobile. Curious, I decided to ring them back, only to be advised to omit the initial 0 for a complimentary call. After doing so, I learned that it was a representative from BRITISH GAS (I'm currently one of their customers) reaching out about a non-urgent issue, mentioning they’d try to get in touch again later. I reckon this number is legitimate.

I've received a fair few calls from this number, but each time, they hang up just as I'm about to pick up. I found a website that claims it's linked to British Gas, but they really ought not to be contacting me since I've opted out of receiving sales calls. When I rang the number myself, a rather curt chap answered, but his response was all rather jumbled. He certainly didn't identify as British Gas, and it didn't even seem like a general switchboard line, just a direct connection. The bloke's voice was unmistakably English.
