Just got a letter with this number on it saying I owe £1,200 in tax from 2021. Problem is, I wasn’t even working that year. Tried ringing the other number they gave, 0333 212936, but it doesn’t seem legit either. Watch out, this looks dodgy!

This was clearly a scam robot call. They started with: "As soon as you get this message, you or your attorney need to ring me back immediately. This matter is urgent." Then the person said they were “Officer James Miller” and gave some hotline number: 0800 0698472, repeated twice for effect. They kept pushing, saying not to ignore the message and to call back right away. If nobody gets back to them, or the attorney doesn’t respond, all they can do is “wish you luck” with whatever’s supposedly coming. Ended with a “goodbye and look after yourself.” Total scam, don’t fall for it.
