The 0800 058 8296 and related numbers are definitely malware scams - make sure you install some kind of free protection software. I looked up the number on Google using incognito mode and found loads of advice from legit Microsoft sites and other pages offering removal tools and downloads. It's shocking that the phone authorities even allow these numbers to be used on UK phone lines!!

I've encountered the same pesky virus as those mentioned previously, and at the moment, I’m in the midst of running AVAST to purge my system of it and gather some evidence about its origins and the culprits behind its arrival. This virus has the audacity to take over my entire web browser, and even a reboot doesn’t seem to do a thing. Strangely enough, when I restarted, updates started rolling in, and I noticed a message pop up on the screen that said something like, "Getting your computer ready for use…". Thankfully, I tend to use several browsers, so while AVAST is busy working its magic in the background to capture the rogue virus, I can still carry on with my tasks. Just to clarify, I didn’t bother ringing the number that was provided, which coincidentally is the same one the unfortunate souls above contacted.

I’ve never encountered such a situation before, so I thought I’d cut them some slack. An Asian woman answered, and I started to feel a bit uneasy when she introduced herself as Emma Marshall, supposedly from California. She managed to get my name, email, phone number, and even accessed my laptop! Now I’m feeling quite anxious that they’ve achieved what they set out for. Seriously, avoid responding to any calls from them!

They got onto my laptop again and I ended up crying cos I really couldn’t afford the £300 they asked for. After that, I reckon he felt bad for me and took off the block. He made it seem real by using the Apple logo and even gave me his worker ID or something. Feel proper daft now.

SCAM ALERT!!! A noisy bleeping popup suddenly showed up on my laptop warning me about a 'porn virus' threatening my Windows security. It urged me to call the number in big red letters (supposedly Microsoft support, but I highly doubt it!) or my PC would be at risk. The obvious red flag? The popup is just long enough so you cant scroll down to click 'Prevent this message from showing again', which means you can't close the tab or window to get rid of it!! So annoying :(

Simple fix: 1. Avoid calling those scumbags in the first place, don’t give them any of your info. They’ve got nothing on you because if you run a virus scan, there won’t be anything dodgy on your machine - these muppets are just waiting for YOU to ring them and spill the beans out of fear of being hacked, which will happen if you let them in!!! 2. Just move your taskbar from the bottom of the screen to the side or top. Hit ‘prevent dialogue’ and after a bit, the annoying popup will shut itself!!! Hate stuff like this - dealt with it loads before - so bloody irritating!!! :(

I got a message saying my computer was infected with a virus, and stupidly, I believed it and let them in on my laptop. When they suddenly asked for £379 to "fix" it, I finally realised it was a scam. Since then, I’ve wiped my laptop clean, contacted my bank, and switched all my passwords. The amount of stress this has caused me is just unreal.

Got a call from this number and at first it seemed believable. I tried to check out the program they mentioned but soon found out it was dodgy - it just opened some weird webpage and then asked me to ring a number, which felt a bit off. It’s apparently a US-based company, like Microsoft or something. But I couldn’t find any real staff behind it. Honestly, if you ask me, just take your computer to a proper shop and have them sort it, if there’s even anything wrong with it at all.

Its a total scam! I rang up first thinking it was genuine, but the first two people just hung up on me. I tried again and this time the guy tried getting my info. I told him it was a scam and all he said was "hmmm".

Had this annoying beep, and a window took over my whole browser saying there was an error to fix. Right there in big red letters was a support phone number, so I called it thinking it might be legit. Then the woman asked for my full name, which set off alarm bells. I told her I'd need to verify the number before sharing any personal info, and then she just went quiet. Definitely a scam, no doubt about it.

I've found that 08000588296 yields the exact details as 02032903734. Both of these numbers are linked to online fraudsters. It’s best to steer clear of calling or sending any money. Just exit and reset your approach. Always make sure your firewalls are robust and reliable. A highly recommended free option is AVG, which comes with great reviews from users and professionals alike.

I rang this number and the ringtone didn’t sound like it was from the UK. Some bloke answered from Australia and said they needed to access my laptop to sort out the problem. I let him, but then he asked me to cough up £199 to fix it.

I’m just 18, and there I was minding my own business when out of nowhere, a popup screamed that a porn-related virus had been found, and bam! My browser was locked up tight. It flashed some error code along with a phone number. Curiosity got the better of me, so I dialled the number, rattled off the code, and you won’t believe it-they just hung up on me! I tried again to get to the bottom of it, but when they mentioned it would cost me £90 to sort things out, I decided enough was enough and hung up myself. Now I’m left wondering what to do after this rather foolish escapade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I went through something similar with that irritating noise and a pop-up from Microsoft saying my computer was infected with a porn virus. I tried calling the number they gave, but thankfully no one picked up and there was no dial tone. Also, as soon as I called, the warning on my laptop vanished and everything seemed fine again. After reading all these comments, I’m a bit worried now.

Got a screenshot that looked like it was from Apple support, saying my computer had a virus. I chatted to a bloke with an Indian accent who called himself “technical support.” When I asked what company, he hesitated and said Microsoft. I told him it was odd since the message said Apple support - he suddenly freaked out and said he’d transfer me! I just laughed and told him to jog on before hanging up. Restarted my computer and everything seemed perfectly fine.

i got this annoying message saying my pc was seriously infected with viruses. it had a loud beeping noise as well. it told me to call 0800 058 8296 for assistance. the scam page wouldn’t go away no matter what i did. so, i just turned my computer off and on again to fix it. after that, i called the number to tell the person on the other end what i thought. even though it was a uk 0800 number, i was quickly connected to someone who sounded like they were from india. i could tell because the ringtone was different from the usual uk one.

Blimey, I had a right palaver today! I gave a bell to a chap and mentioned the error code, thinking it was all above board. To my absolute horror, he somehow managed to get into my computer (I know, proper daft of me!). Just when I started to get the heebie-jeebies, I pulled the plug on my Internet connection. That's when this previously amiable fellow turned rather snippy, declaring he wasn’t some sort of wizard and insisted I reconnect. As I pressed him for more details, he just hung up on me! Does anyone know if they could have nicked anything from my computer? What happens if I go online again? Could they waltz back in? I’m quite vexed and could use a bit of clarity!

Got that same message today, 8th Dec 2015. Something about a porn virus, blah blah, with a toll free number starting 0800. Sounded kinda legit. Is just hanging up enough to deal with these?

Just to share my experience from today, the 8th of December 2015. An alert appeared on my screen from Microsoft Security, stating that the number displayed could be linked to an error report labelled SMEERRO9007QDI, and they warned that my system might be infected with a virus attempting to siphon off data, photographs, and social media details. Out of curiosity, I decided to call the number provided and was greeted by someone who sounded as though they hailed from Africa. He was shockingly smooth and composed, probing me about what had occurred and then requested control over my computer. When I inquired about his company's name, he pronounced it as "LIMA," but upon further questioning, he clarified it as L-I-V-E. Naturally, I declined and mentioned that I would investigate further. It appears, fingers crossed, that my instincts were spot on, but the screen notifications were alarmingly convincing and closely mimicked genuine Microsoft alerts.

I recently fell victim to a nasty virus that popped up on my laptop. A message appeared, insisting I call a specific number and provide an error code displayed on the screen to resolve the issue, with a cheeky £20 fee for the so-called assistance. Naturally, it raised my suspicions, and the call ended abruptly. To make matters worse, I spotted unfamiliar devices connected to my computer, which has left me utterly furious!

What a disgraceful con perpetrated by a tech company in Bangalore! They're out to plunder your bank account, and if you're foolish enough to hand over your details, they'll clean you out in no time. Not only that, but they're also keen on filching any personal information or data from your system if you unwittingly grant them remote access. The wisest course of action is to simply disregard the number entirely-do not, under any circumstances, give them a call!

This morning, I found myself on the phone with a number claiming to be Microsoft. I foolishly entertained the call, and now I’m out of pocket to the tune of £975. To add to my worries, I’m still uncertain whether my system is truly secure, even though my computer seems to be functioning as normal.

I received a notification on my laptop claiming that there was a virus and instructing me to ring a particular number. When I did so, a chap answered and started probing for details about my computer to supposedly fix the issue. I pushed back and asked, "What if sharing my details ends up exacerbating the virus?" He promptly hung up. It’s clearly a ruse aimed at gaining access to your personal data!

I was in the midst of enjoying a film when suddenly a pop-up appeared, warning me that my laptop had been compromised and suggesting I reach out for help at this phone number. When I dialled the number, a gentleman with either a Chinese or Bangladeshi accent started probing me about what I was up to. Then he proceeded to ask if he could take control of my laptop to resolve the issue. At that juncture, I became quite wary and began to press him for further clarification on why accessing my device was necessary. His responses were rather vague, so I told him I'd need to investigate this number further before proceeding. I then ended the call.
