On 24th November 2022, I got an email from what appeared to be PayPal, claiming there was some dodgy activity on my account. It stated that £877.99 had been taken for a MacBook Air purchase and urged me to contact them immediately at +44-800-058-4792 if I hadn’t made the transaction. The issue is, I closed down my PayPal account ages ago, and the email address they used has no link to my actual account. It’s all a bit of a farce, really, as there’s no account linked to it and the email is entirely incorrect. Clearly, this is nothing more than a scam email, along with a fake UK phone number.

I recently got a dodgy email urging me to ring this number, claiming that my PayPal account was somehow at risk. Fortunately, it’s all a load of nonsense. Here’s what they sent me:

"It appears your PayPal Account may have been unlawfully accessed. A sum of GBP £698.00 has been deducted from your account to cover the cost of a SEPHORA GIFT CARD. If you believe you didn’t authorise this transaction, please call us immediately at +44-800-058-4870, or hop over to the PayPal Support Centre for help."

I recently got an email that claimed to be from PayPal, urging me to ring a specific number. The message read something like this: "Kathryn Cooper has requested payment: WE'VE DETECTED SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY ON YOUR ACCOUNT. A SUM OF £877.99 HAS BEEN TAKEN FOR A MACBOOK AIR PURCHASE. IF THIS WASN'T YOU, DO CONTACT US STRAIGHTAWAY @+44-800-058-4792."

I received an email purporting to be from Paypal, asking for my nod on a payment of £877.99 for a MacBook Air, or to ring +44 800 058 4792. The email seemed to come from [email protected]. I've swiftly cancelled the transaction through my Paypal account and have also updated my password for added security.

I received an email claiming over £800 had been withdrawn from my account, and it instructed me to call a number immediately if it wasn’t me behind the transaction. Naturally, I didn’t do that! The whole thing felt off from the start; something about the email just didn’t sit well with me.

It seems I've encountered a rather dubious character pretending to be PayPal- it’s quite alarming! They had all the details connected to my account, including my cards. The ruse came to light when they requested my full card number, which I wisely refused to divulge. I ended up contacting PayPal directly through their app, only to discover that the number I'd been speaking to was a scam. It's pivotal to remember that PayPal will never request such sensitive information from you. Stay cautious, folks!
