Beware of scams! I received a text from PayPal claiming that a Heather Boddie asked for a payment, with a note saying: "You've sent £899.99 GBP to ESET NOD32. If you didn't authorise this, please call Customer Support on +44-800-058-4158." I immediately rejected the payment request and updated my PayPal password. Proper worrying stuff!

Got a phishing email pretending to be from PayPal, and like others have mentioned, it was probably the most convincing one I’ve come across. Something felt off though, so I looked up the number and stumbled upon this site. I got an email saying £500 had been taken out of my account without permission, and to get in touch with customer service on 800 058 4158. When I rang, it connected me to a call centre in India. The email looked really convincing, it even appeared to come from PayPal itself, with an address like [email protected], and all the usual PayPal links were included and looked proper. Still, it’s definitely a scam, so watch out for this sort of thing.

Got three emails all saying I owe £500 each for some invoices to be paid at Sainsburys. I shut down my PayPal account a few weeks ago, so this seemed off straight away. The emails look dead convincing, even the web addresses appeared like legit paypal.com links. Luckily, I resisted clicking and copied the link into a doc to have a closer look. It’s a proper scam, so watch out folks!

*** COMPLETELY DISGUSTING SCAMMERS *** I got in touch with PayPal’s Fraud Dept after noticing some dodgy emails. It seems some crooks are creating fake PayPal profiles to send out bogus invoices to random people. Don’t fall for it - PayPal says they won’t process any payment unless you specifically hit the PAY button, so just bin those emails. I just had a call from +44 800 058 4158, and it's a complete rip-off. They pretend to be PAYPAL, even using real-ish hold music and automated voice prompts to sound legit. Don’t fall for it! They pick up and try to fish for your details right away. Steering well clear of these fraudsters!

The email had the wrong name on it. I saw Blackbeltbarrister on YouTube mention something similar last week, but his was an actual Paypal invoice linked to his account. The best thing is to just delete those messages and avoid replying. Looks like the number is blocked now too.

I rang the toll-free number from an email claiming to be from PayPal - obviously a scam. The phone picked up with a recorded message saying it was PayPal’s security line, so I thought it was legit. I ended up giving them my email and the town I was born in, and surprisingly, they were able to rattle off my last three PayPal purchases. Then they said my account was hacked from Germany the day before, and suddenly the call just dropped. It felt fishy as hell so I immediately changed my password. Now they’re ringing me back repeatedly. Proper dodgy situation!
