I got this weird msg from some camera app sayin: freemsg: thanks for signing up for unlimited access to their stuff for £4.50 a week from gkt unless I text stop to 65065. Then it had a number 08000569232 for help. Has anyone else seen this? Dunno what to do now?

On behalf of my 75-year-old mother, I wanted to share her rather troubling experience. This afternoon, she topped up her phone with a fiver, and before she knew it, a mere 50 pence was left in her balance. Shortly after, she received a rather uninvited text from 66299, which stated: “To cancel, call 0800 0569 232. This is a free reminder. You are subscribed to the ilike weekly competition service, costing £4.50 a week, unless you text 'stop' to 66299. For help, call 0800 056 9232.” Naturally, she decided to ring the 0800 number, but her phone only let out a single beep before abruptly disconnecting her. This has now happened to her on two separate occasions, and she’s certainly not signed up for any such service. I can’t help but feel this is nothing short of a scam!

I downloaded the app but it didn’t do anything so I deleted it. Then I got the same message again. I called the 0800 number and put in my number, saw a £1.53 ‘pending’ charge from the iTunes store on my bank account. Rang Apple and they said it’s just a temporary hold that’ll be refunded. When I asked Apple support how this could happen if their apps are checked properly, they told me to get in touch with the app developer. So now I’m just waiting to see how it turns out, I suppose.

I downloaded an app from Facebook which didn’t work properly, so I deleted it. Then out of nowhere I got a message saying I’d apparently signed up for unlimited access to some gktso info portal charging me £4.50 a week. The text said to reply STOP to 65065 if I wanted out or call 08000569323 for help. Really weird and annoying.

i downloaded a match 3 game from wonderful games and right after hitting open, i got a message saying i’d been subscribed to something charging me £4.50 a week for limited access to their content portal. the text was from gkt and said to text STOP to 65065 to cancel, plus a help number 08000569232. i deleted the app straight away but now I’m worried they might still have access to my account. can anyone tell me how to properly stop this? p.s. i didn’t even get to play the game before this happened, thanks!

I recently entered a competition for Morrisons, and now I've received a message claiming I’ve signed up for a subscription costing £4.50. When I tried to call and cancel it, I started fretting about whether I've been hit with charges from a premium rate number. The number that rang me was 0800 015 5139.

I stumbled upon the Amazing Toolbar thanks to a suggestion from a new app on my Sony device. However, I've just received a message informing me that I'll be billed £4.50 every week. I never signed up for anything; all I did was download the app after it popped up as a recommendation on my Sony Xperia. I’ve been advised to ring 0800 056932 for assistance. Could someone please clarify if calling this number is going to put a dent in my wallet? - caller: ?

I was taken aback to find a £4.50 charge from this number on my account. It turns out I’ve been subscribed to a weekly fee of £4.50 for competitions, and all I did was participate in a free contest! I ended up having to text ‘stop’ to 66299. Honestly, I’m quite appalled. Is this even permissible?

Got a text saying I’d won a £500 prize from Argos competition, but then another one popped up saying I’d agreed to pay £4.50 each week? They said I could text STOP to 66299 or ring 08000569232 to opt out. Bit fishy if you ask me.
