Phone number ☎️ 08000556622 👆 is reported as the official Nationwide Building Society credit card fraud hotline, used by genuine customers to report lost, stolen or suspicious activity on their accounts. While the number itself is legitimate and listed on Nationwide’s website, it is frequently exploited by scammers who spoof the caller ID or impersonate Nationwide representatives from alternative numbers to trick people. Genuine Nationwide contact typically originates from texts or emails advising customers to phone back rather than cold calling. Callers claiming to be from the fraud team but requesting payments or sensitive information should be treated with extreme caution. Always verify suspicious calls by contacting Nationwide directly using the number on your card or official website, and report any fraudulent attempts to Action Fraud promptly.

Got a call from what turned out to be the Nationwide fraud dept. They blocked my card and set up a replacement. I popped into the nearby branch and they verified it was a genuine call from them. So yeah, my card’s cancelled and a new one is on its way.

I called this number thinking it was just some random thing, but it turned out to be Nationwide's fraud line. They helped me check all the places my card had been charged and stopped any more payments straight away. Found out one of the things I bought online actually had a sneaky subscription attached that I had no idea about - lesson learnt to be extra cautious when buying stuff on the internet!

I got a message claiming to be from Monzo, saying there was a failed payment from Apple and to reply 'no' if I didn’t know about it. Then, they rang me pretending to be Monzo Bank Fraud team, telling me someone had created a direct debit on my account that same day. They said they'd send me a text with the info, but when it came, it had a suspicious link. As soon as I spotted the link, I realised it was a con, so I told the caller off and hung up straight away.

Just got a ring from someone claiming to be from the Nationwide Credit Card Fraud team. They even left me this number to get back in touch. Pretty obvious it was a scam though!

If you're worried about Nationwide card fraud, this is the real number to ring. I had a dodgy call trying to scam me, so I ended the call and dialled this lost and stolen card line from Nationwide. I can confirm it's legit, not some trick.

If you get a call from this number, don’t bother talking to them - just ring your bank straight away. They’re using a fake number to try and scam people.

If you want to report fraud on your Nationwide credit card, this is definitely the right number to call! Last year I missed a real fraud alert because I ignored the warnings after reading some dodgy comments here. But I double-checked the number on Nationwide’s official site and rang it myself. They told me someone was attempting to make purchases from the US, blocked the card immediately, and sent out a replacement. My guess is those bad reviews are from people who got calls from scammers using fake caller IDs, so be careful!

Had a terrible phone connection, an Asian lady speaking and all I caught was something about Virgin Media. I said I don’t have Virgin Media and she just went “I know.” I told her to ruddy leave me alone a couple of times, and she kept calling me a “stupid man” before hanging up on me!

This number really does belong to Nationwide, specifically their fraud reporting line. Customers use it to report things like lost cards or suspicious activity. You won't get a random call from the bank using this number. If Nationwide needs to get in touch about such matters, they'll usually send an email or text first, asking you to ring them back. It's quite worrying that scammers seem to have taken over this number for their schemes. Still, to be clear, it’s a legitimate number for the bank’s fraud team.

Got a call from a woman who said her name was Hannah. Her accent wasn’t English and I found it quite hard to make out what she was saying. She didn’t sound very professional, so I figured I’d better look into it.

Just got a call from them a few minutes ago. They already had my name, phone number and even my bank details. Asked if I’d done a payment today in London. Didn’t sound legit at all. I told them no and ended the call. They rang back three times but I kept ignoring them. Claimed to be from Nationwide, yet never bothered with any security checks. Felt really suspicious to me.

I got a call from 03456006611 from someone saying they were with Nationwide. When I didn’t seem convinced, they told me to ring the number on the back of my card or this direct line: 08000556622. I phoned Nationwide myself after and they said they hadn’t called me at all, so it looks like a right dodgy scam to me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Nationwide, they even knew my first name. They asked if I had sent money to Mexico, which caught me off guard. I told them I'd call back once I was home. They kept pushing though, which seemed odd. Later, I rang Nationwide directly using the number from the back of my card and they said it definitely wasn’t them calling. Very suspicious!

Got a voicemail at around 7.40 in the evening, some bloke named Ben asking me to ring him when I got a chance. He sounded quite polite and kept saying the callback number, 0800 055 6622, twice. I rang the Nationwide number on my card today, and they told me straight up it was a scam, not linked to them at all.

So I got a call from someone claiming to be from my bank - they even mentioned I had an account with Monzo. They said there were some suspicious transactions going on and wanted to check with me. To "confirm" I was the account holder, they asked me how much money was in there. The person spoke really well, quite clearly with an English accent. Definitely felt like a scam to me.

I got a call from 08000556622, and it showed up as Nationwide Direct. The person on the other end claimed my bank details had been hacked and that someone was trying to order a new card and change my address and phone number. She offered to sort out a new card for me and gave me an account number and sort code, asking me to move a big sum of money onto it. I asked why and said I’d only transfer £10 but didn’t actually send anything. While still talking, I phoned Nationwide myself and they confirmed it was a scam. They said nobody from their side had contacted me and my card is fine.
