8 yearsYesterday, a sum of £72.00 was unexpectedly siphoned from my account by a company I've had a subscription with for eight years, which I thought I'd thwarted ages ago. What truly perplexes me is how they managed to access my funds using a bank card that’s long expired. I've since made my way to the bank where they assisted in sorting the mess out. I was connected with the Halifax disputes team and given the number 08000294639 to ring, which I did promptly. The chap on the other end was quite articulate about the situation, explaining their intentions to ‘resolve’ the matter and even offered to tidy up my new laptop, all for the hefty price of £179.00 plus VAT. I made it clear that such an amount was beyond my means, and to my dismay, he simply hung up on me. Now I’m left no better off than before.Halifax8 yearsI made a call to this number after noticing some odd activity on my bank account. My bank provided it, believing it to be associated with Norton. When I phoned, a chap named "Kevin Robertson" suggested that I might require internet security and mentioned they would need to access my computer remotely, charging me a hefty £251 plus VAT. Afterwards, something didn’t sit right with me, so I decided to call Norton directly. Unsure if I had the right number at first, but they initially confirmed that Kevin Robertson was indeed with them. However, once I mentioned the outrageous fee, they asked for the number I dialled and informed me that I'd fallen victim to a scam. I’ve reported this to the Fraud Agency. A bit of research led me to discover they are operating under the name UK Network Experts Ltd at 88 Cornwall Rd, Birmingham B20 2HZ. They've been registered with Companies House since November 2017. It’s high time that action is taken against such fraudulent activities.NortonKevin RobertsonFraud AgencyUK Network Experts LtdCornwall RdBirminghamCompanies House8 yearsI reached out to what I believed was authentic Microsoft support, and they tried to fleece me for £215 to remedy an issue on my brand new laptop. I wasn't in a position to pay straight away, but they were willing to postpone for a fortnight while I sent a cheque. They then connected me with some so-called 'support company' based in Birmingham, who had remote access to my laptop for two hours, presumably doing who knows what. Fortunately, I contacted the real Microsoft, who managed to sort my machine for a modest charge and firmly advised me against making any payment. I'm still waiting for that two-week deadline to pass, but I refuse to pay a penny. It was a foolish error on my part, but when you're frazzled over tech issues, it's all too easy to fall for these traps.
