I rang the number but got a message saying they couldn’t take the call at the moment. Lucky it was an 0800 number so no chance it was some dodgy premium line. Sounds like a load of rubbish to me, best just block it.

So, first I got a text saying I’d been a victim of fraud, then another one thanking me for updating my phone and telling me to call 0800 029 4269 if I hadn’t changed my details. After that, another message popped up about fraud protection with a link to www.barckaycard.co.uk/fraud. This is my work mobile and our company definitely doesn’t have a Barclaycard, so it’s pretty clear this is a scam trying to catch people out.

I'm super wary about stuff like this (my partner works in cyber security), so I didn't call the number. Asked my partner and he said to just ignore it cos it's a scam. Got the same text again claiming my phone number got changed along with my address and they’re sending me a new card (a bit fishy if you ask me) pretending to be Barclays. Also had a call from a hidden number with no voicemail right after, and I’m registered with TPS. The number they gave doesn’t show up anywhere in Barclays’ contact list. Best to ignore that number and just delete the message.

I spoke with Barclays customer service on 0800 151 0900 and they said this isn’t a Barclaycard number. The weird thing was when I called 0294269, someone answered claiming to be from the Barclaycard fraud team. I was hesitant to give my card details, so the bloke told me to call the number on the back of my card to confirm it was legit - which you should always do, obviously. But if he was a scammer, why would he say that?! Barclays confirmed no changes had been made to my account. Getting this call at 4am is definitely not what anyone wants.

So, in the early hours around 3.15am, I got a text from this number which I had saved as Barclaycard, saying they were sending me a new card. The message asked me to call back if I hadn’t requested it. Then, at about 8.15am, I received a call from a “caller ID withheld” number. The person claimed there was suspicious activity on my account and wanted me to answer some security questions. When I asked how I could be certain he was really from Barclaycard and said I’d ring them myself, he didn’t seem bothered at all. I ended the call shortly after. Afterwards, I rang Barclaycard’s Fraud team using the contact on their official website, and they told me they hadn’t sent any messages or made any calls, and there hadn’t been any unusual activity on my account recently. Looks like this was just a classic phishing attempt.

The message came right after my last three proper texts from Barclays so seemed real enough, but i saw a show last week where a bloke got scammed out of 5 grand with the same trick. Dont bother callin or replyin to the number, and spread the word on fb/twitter about this scam, we need to stop these crooks.

The person I spoke to told me no changes had been made and they hadn’t sent any messages or emails. I told them about the text and the number it had, which their own tool approved, but the agent said the message wasn’t from them and suggested it was a scam. What puzzles me is how scammers would ask people to call a legit Barclaycard number unless they’re somehow hijacking those calls? My tip is if you get a message like this, always phone Barclaycard using the number on your card to check your account’s safe. Hopefully this helps someone else out.

Turns out, this same number has messaged me before with a link to supposedly download an updated app. There was also another message warning about a fraud check and saying future messages would come from the mobile number 07537413147. Before all this, I'd received a few texts from what looked like the same source, but from an 0800 number. The very first one just said my card was on its way - no links or anything fishy, making it seem legit and not like some scam at all!

My partner got a text not long ago claiming that some details on her phone account had been updated - she actually has a plan but never really uses the SIM - and it told her to ring a certain number. Pretty obvious scam if you ask me. Then twice I’ve got messages that supposedly came from my Bank, saying they’d hacked into Lloyds’ phone system. The texts even looked like they were from a proper Lloyds number, which my phone usually shows when I get weekly statements. The first time, I naively rang the number given, which took me to an automated line that sounded just like Lloyds’ genuine system. Luckily, I caught on quick, and the Bank was able to freeze my accounts. People really need to watch out for this kinda thing!
