THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM - anyone saying in the comments that this is a legit number is likely in on it. Don't EVER share your birthdate or even bits of it - it's way too easy for them to figure out the full date!

FRAUD ALERT - I’ve just verified with Barclays, and this number is definitely not associated with them. Although it may sound quite legitimate when you ring it, I advise against divulging any personal information. It’s best to report this directly to Barclays either in person at your local branch or through the contact number in your banking app. Stay safe!

Yesterday (17/10/17), I got a call on my mobile from 0800 029 4267. The voice on the other end was really odd and robotic, but since these calls often sound weird, I didn’t think much of it. They just asked me to confirm my name by pressing any button, which I did, and then the line went dead. I rang Barclays from my landline afterwards, and they told me this number isn’t connected to them at all. Apparently, I’d been targeted by scammers, but luckily my account is safe. So, I’m pretty sure this number is a fraud.

This really proves how useless it is tryna find info on these kinds of sites - loads of comments say they’ve checked the number and it’s legit, but others claim Barclaycard says they don’t recognise it and call it a scam. So now I’m just as clueless as before about whether that call was real or fake!!!

This call mentioned my daughter who moved out 7 years back. She’s already told Barclays multiple times that she isn’t linked to my phone number or my home, so I’m fairly certain this call is just some sort of data gathering scam.

I just wanted to share my experience with this particular phone number. It appears to be linked to Barclays' fraud prevention services. Earlier today, I received a call from them and was greeted by an automated message that had my complete name and my birth month and year! After I pressed '1' to confirm my details, the automated system went on to say that my card, which ends with the digits XXXX, has been flagged as compromised and that a new one would be sent out to me. The call wrapped up with a prompt to connect with an advisor if I needed further assistance. Quite the alert, I must say!

Today I got a call from this number, which turned out to be Barclays card fraud prevention. The automated message actually said my full name and even my birth month and year. When I pressed 1 to verify the details, the system told me my card ending in XXXX had been compromised, and they would send me a new one. The call finished by giving me the choice to talk to an advisor.

If this is indeed a scam, it’s quite curious that the number is validated by Barclays’ own phone number verification system, isn’t it? I received an automated call instructing me to enter the number they reached me on to access my information. They didn’t inquire about anything else apart from whether it was acceptable to block my card and replace it for security purposes. There was a choice to respond with a key press to confirm or to speak with a representative, which is what I opted for. Strangely, they didn’t ask for any security details or account-specific questions at all; they simply provided an explanation. Quite odd, really!

Got a voicemail on my home phone saying my card might be at risk. I rang the number back and an automated voice asked me to select my birth month and year, one of the options was spot on. It said the card would be cancelled then I chose to talk to an advisor. She didn’t ask for any personal info, just told me there'd been a data breach and a new card was on its way. Afterwards, I phoned the official Barclaycard fraud dept to check the number was genuine. Always stay cautious and never share your details with anyone!

This is the official Barclays fraud phone number. Checked both their website and Facebook page, both say it’s legit. When you call, they ask security questions using your actual name, and you pick the answers from a list - so you don't really give away any personal details. Since it's a real number, you don't gotta worry about it!

Got a call from this number just now - I rang Barclaycard using the number on my card and they said they hadn’t made any call to me.

I reckon this is one of those line-hold scams, so watch out alright. Even if you think you've ended the call, they can still keep control, and ringing the genuine Barclaycard number won’t help much since they're the ones asking for your info. (I've got sharp hearing, and even their fake dial tone sounded a bit off. They really ought to sort that out.) Best double-check by calling the fraud hotline on your card from a different phone. This scam only works on landlines, so if you can, use your mobile instead. Their hold on the line will drop after a few minutes, so no need to panic too much.

Initially, I thought this was just another scam, but turns out, the message about my Barclaycard was legit. I also got a voicemail on my landline. They said they had frozen my card because they suspected fraud and wanted to check some details with me. I hung up (figured it might be dodgy) and rang their official customer service line instead. They confirmed it was them trying to get in touch. Even though the text looks fishy, it's actually trustworthy.

I rang Barclaycard on the number on the back of my card after getting a voicemail from this number. They were already aware of the call and assumed I was following up on their earlier contact. Everything seemed legit - apparently my card info was flagged as compromised, so they've cancelled it now.

I'm convinced this is a dodgy setup. Could you please take down the remarks asserting that this number is genuine? I've no doubt it's a scam. I got a text from this number on a phone that isn't linked to my account. I contacted the helpline on the back of my card, and they validated my concerns. Always be cautious and ring the number listed on your card instead of any you receive in a text like this. Best to stay safe! 😑

Barclaycard Fraud dept called me. Said my card number was in a batch police said was compromised. They’ve blocked the card, cancelled it and sending me a new one. What’s weird is I only ever use it online through PayPal and Amazon, so dunno how my details got leaked.

This number really belongs to Barclaycard's fraud team. I called back and they explained that my credit card was flagged as potentially being used fraudulently. When I asked for more details, they said the matter was still being looked into, so they couldn’t share anything else. I decided to have a replacement card sent, which should arrive in 4-5 days. It’s better to be cautious than risk it :)

Got a robo call from this number saying they were from the fraud team and I needed to call back straight away on that same number. I rang Barclaycard's actual fraud department (not this number) and they said they hadn’t contacted me and there’s nothing odd on my account. BE CAREFUL WITH THIS NUMBER EVEN THOUGH SOME COMMENTS SAY OTHERWISE!! Always call the number on your card or official website instead.

I didn't pick up, so I got a recorded message left on my voicemail. Before ringing back, I looked up the number on the Barclaycard official site. Got a call from Barclays Fraud Team. They dropped me a voicemail saying there might be some risk affecting a bunch of credit card holders. I got this automated call and looked up the number on Barclays' official website, which lets you verify phone numbers. It showed that this number isn’t a legit Barclays contact. This number really is from the Barclaycard fraud department. They left a voicemail saying I should call them back straight away. It was an automated system asking me to verify some security info but never once asked for my bank details or passwords. They told me my card was compromised, blocked it, and said a replacement would arrive within 2 to 5 days. I then rang Barclaycard on the number on the back of my card to double check, and they confirmed my card had been exposed due to a security breach, likely a hack at one of the merchants.

I received a call from this number and decided to verify it through the Barclaycard website. Turns out, it's a legitimate number after all.

This number looks legit, but honestly, even real numbers can be faked with spoofing. You can’t be sure the person calling isn’t just trying to fish out info, like if you hold a Barclaycard or to double-check your address. Be careful and don’t share any personal info with them.

My husband got a call from this number, but he opted not to answer. They left a voicemail stating he should get in touch with the fraud department at Barclaycard. The voice was female, and they mentioned his name, which made it a bit concerning. He did use his Barclaycard twice earlier today. Is this something we should be wary of, or could it be a scam? We’ve decided not to return the call to that number.

Just got a voicemail from this number and called back. It seemed legit since it was an automated system and didn’t ask for any personal details. They had me pick from three questions and answer correctly, but none seemed risky at all. The call was about confirming the cancellation of my card. In hindsight, I wish I’d gone straight to the official website and used the number there - that would’ve felt safer. I reacted quick to the voicemail and only thought about that after. I’ve checked my bank account and all my transactions look normal, nothing suspicious at all.

That was the fraud dept from Barclaycard.

Got a call from Barclays today like some others, saying my card could be at risk. They asked for my card number and password which seemed a bit off. So i phoned their fraud dept to check and yep, they confirmed it was them and they’re sending me a new card. They wouldn't say which shop had been hacked though, which isn’t much use if you wanna avoid it. Weird part is I thought banks never ask for your card details or passwords over the phone, so it made me wonder if maybe they’ve been compromised themselves. Has anyone else had something similar happen recently?

[##]barclays[###]/phone-number-checker shows this is an official Barclaycard line (fraud team). If you ring from a phone number linked to your account, the automated service won’t ask for any account details, just confirm your name and pick your DOB from a list it reads out. After that, it’ll explain the issue (likely a suspicious card activity) and ask if you want to block the card and get a new one sent or be put through to a fraud call-centre advisor.

Got a call from this number today. Like some others said, I looked it up and it really is Barclaycard Fraud dept. I said yes to replacing my card. But they wouldn’t say which shop or website got hacked. Don’t get why, cuz how am I supposed to know which password to update now?

I called the number 0800 318 665 which is supposed to be the Barclays fraud helpline. They told me it was a legit Barclaycard number but said it was some sort of automated line or something, not sure what that means really. They wanted to block my card and send out a new one for some reason. Since I was just about to go overseas, I said no thanks but told them I’d keep an eye on my account instead.

I received a call from this number, but I have no ties whatsoever to Barclays, so I'm quite puzzled as to why they would be reaching out to me.

Yeah this number is real, I called it from the back of my cards and Barclaycard told me it was legit. There might be some dodgy sellers out there so they’re just replacing my cards just to be safe.

I just spoke with Barclays myself and it really was their fraud team calling. Still, I’d ring a Barclays number you trust just to double check it’s legit.

I got a call from this number and thought it was dodgy at first, but then I used Barclays’ phone number checker and it turned out to be legit. If you’re unsure, just head to Barclays’ website (type the address yourself), find their phone number checker and verify the number. Looks like quite a few cards have been getting hacked lately. Best to stay cautious and assume every call might be a scam unless you’re certain. Never give out any personal info just in case.

Proper call from Barclays fraud team. They dropped a voicemail, so I rang back on the number on the back of my card. They connected me to the fraud dept, who said the call was legit and they’re sending me a new card because some old merchant might’ve had a security issue.

I checked the bank's official site and this number isn’t listed at all for clients to call. Watch out!

I got a call from what sounded like Barclaycard, supposedly from their fraud team. To be safe, I ended the call and sent a secure message through their official site asking if it was legit. They replied back asking for info and confirmed it was the real fraud department. Just spoke to them again and they’re sending me a new card as a precaution.

This is legit!! I can't believe some folks say it isn't! Clearly, you shouldn't pick up unknown calls but calling the number on the back of your Barclaycard is the way to go, and you'll get your replacement card in a few days. It doesn't mean you've been singled out, just that somewhere you've used your card had a security issue or breach, and Barclaycard doing this fast is a proper helpful service.

I’d honestly just call the bank straight from the phone numbers on any official letters you have. Loads of people have been moaning about this number, so best to be cautious. Watch out for those Greens, they seem dodgy.

Phoned the Barclaycard fraud dept using the number on their site. Got through to an Indian call centre, but I could hardly make out what they were saying. They said a merchant was hacked and they were sending me a couple of new cards. Looks legit to me.

I had my suspicions about that number, so I decided to ring the one printed on the back of my card. Turned out it was indeed Barclays, and they informed me that there’s been a fraudulent incident linked to my account. A merchant had flagged my card as possibly compromised. It sounds like Barclays will be cancelling my card and sending me a replacement shortly.

Wasn’t too sure about the number so I called the one on the back of me card instead. It was BarclayCard and they confirmed there was a fraud alert cause a shop had flagged some dodgy card details. Barclays said they’ll probably cancel me card and send a replacement.

Barclaycard is indeed alerting you about possible issues with your card security and this call is LEGIT. If you call them back, there’s no need to provide any info - you just respond with some button presses to confirm if you want a replacement card or not. No personal data is shared at all.

This is legit, I rang Barclays on another number I found on their official site (0800 151 0900) - they confirmed they do call from 08000 294 267. Seems like my card info got exposed cos a shop got hacked, so they're sending me a replacement card. Definitely not a scam.

Just wanted to say I’m not the only one who’s not worried. THIS IS DEFINITELY A LEGIT BARCLAYCARD NUMBER. I rang the number on my credit card to double check and they verified the time I called, the name of the person I spoke with, and what we discussed with their fraud team. It’s good to be careful, but causing unnecessary panic doesn’t help anyone. The safest bet is to always contact Barclaycard yourself and never share anything sensitive like passwords or personal info that could cause trouble.

Absolutely no scam here. My partner got a call and she dialled the number listed on her Barclaycard, not some random 0800 one. She was connected straight to Fraud Prevention. They're just cancelling and reissuing her card because one of the shops she’s bought from got hacked. So if you’re saying this is a dodgy number, you’re just talking rubbish.

This isnt a scam - just ring up the number found on the back of your Barclaycard for some peace of mind. They’ll connect you to the fraud department. It’s a precaution they are sending out to loads of people, you dont need to have your card blocked but it’s worth checking your account for any dodgy transactions before you call.

Got a call from Barclaycard’s Fraud Prevention team telling me that my card, along with a few others, might have been hacked. They seemed to know it was me from the number they called from, and didn’t ask for any personal details except to confirm my birth month and year from a few options they gave me. At the end, I could either get a replacement card sent or chat with one of their specialists.

PART ONE Really don’t get the fuss about the 0800 0294267 number. They’d be better off just using the same fraud line they mention on their website (0800 318 665 - just Google it). I phoned the official one instead and it seems they were just trying to reach me. It’s not that your card’s been hacked, but rather a place where you used your card (like a shop) has been breached - like an employee might have been taking card details. So yeah, it’s definitely Barclaycard making a genuine effort to get in touch with customers.

This is a legit Barclay card number, they called about fraud. I followed the automated prompts and then spoke to a real person. The fraud agent only asked me to confirm my name, nothing else. They just needed my okay to cancel my cards. If youre unsure, best to ring the fraud team directly using the number on their official site.

PART TWO: I wouldn’t ring the number back myself, but definitely give the legit Barclaycard Fraud team a ring to check things out. For the doubters: keep a close watch on your account, there’s a chance your card details are out there somewhere. And to those who haven't contacted Barclaycard yet still say it’s a scam - seriously, just be quiet. Yelling ‘SCAM’ about a call that’s legit (even if it wasn’t handled very well) doesn’t help anyone. Time to be a bit more mature.

This seems legit. Got a recorded message from this number sayin there might be fraud on my bank account. Instead of ringin them back, I phoned the number on the back of my credit card and they said it was their fraud team and put me through. New card on the way now.

Yep, it’s definitely Barclays. I used their official safe number tool and it showed it was legit. I phoned the number and got through some automated security stuff, no way for anyone else to get in. Turns out my credit card got hacked and they’re sending me a replacement now.

PART TWO It's a bit of a sly move to avoid hassle on their end, but it ends up costing you. However, with new cards being sent out, there could be fresh terms and conditions attached. If you decide to proceed, it might be worth double checking by directly asking them about it. They told me there hasn’t been any fraud and my card won’t be blocked - I’ll just wait to see what actually happens on the date they said it would.

Wow, took you 2 whole days to respond, scammer? I looked it up on Barclaycard’s Facebook page and yep, it’s a proper scam number. What’s that? You reckon I can’t say things without proof? Guess you’re just rubbish at scamming, must be sad having to spend your time like that.

This is a legit number, no scam here. If you wanna be sure, just reach out to Barclaycard yourself - either pop a message on their Twitter @barclaycard or ring them up. They’ll tell you straight if it’s safe or not. Too many people shouting scam without even checking with Barclaycard first. Easy enough to confirm.

Honestly, I’d say don’t bother replying to texts or missed calls from unknown numbers. If it’s supposedly from Barclaycard, just ring the number listed on your card or check their official site. I definitely wouldn't call back on 08000294267. Don’t just trust someone else telling you if that number’s legit or not - trust your gut on these things.
