I recently got a phone call featuring a recorded message claiming that my internet had been hacked and was at risk of disconnection. They urged me to press 2 to speak to a technician. I complied out of curiosity and ended up chatting with someone who sounded Indian, asking for details about the devices linked to my internet. At that moment, I decided to call BT directly instead, and he provided me with the number 8000280577. However, I didn't trust it and bypassed calling it altogether, opting to reach out to BT myself. They confirmed it was all a scam.

Claimed to be affiliated with BT, yet what they were spouting had an uncanny resemblance to the typical 'Microsoft support' con job.

I gathered they hailed from BT Openworld, trying to address some issue with our broadband. They asked if we might power up our computer for a little diagnostic check. Well, that's a hard pass from me! No chance!
