I've tried ringing this number a bunch of times but it never seems to go through.

I received a notification claiming to be from Microsoft, indicating that I had been locked out of my computer and advising me to reach out to them using the number provided on the screen.

This number is indeed genuine; it’s employed by Microsoft for activating Windows and Office products. Just a heads up - they won’t be reaching out to you; it’s really up to you to make the call yourself.

I was under the impression that Microsoft would ring you up, but nope, it's the other way around - you need to give them a bell!

Could this number be a scam?

I managed to activate my Windows online without any issues right after installation, but just a few days later, I encountered a pesky pop-up that seemed dodgy. I decided to ring the 0800 number for assistance, and they offered to send me a link via SMS to sort it out more swiftly. To my surprise, the link didn’t mention Microsoft at all, so I thought it best to steer clear of it. I'm beginning to think this whole situation might be a scam.

This is indeed the authentic Microsoft contact number for activating your Windows via a phone call. Remember, they won’t be the ones to call you-it's imperative that you reach out to them instead. Moreover, there's no cost associated with this call since it’s an 0800 number, which means you won't incur any charges whatsoever for dialling it.

They didn’t ring me - you actually have to ring them. This is the real number for Windows activation, and it’s been that way since 2000.

Absolute nonsense! I've just checked my phone statement, and I noticed that I'm being charged 50 pence per minute for this number. Honestly, steer clear of it; it reeks of a scam!

I gave them a bell back, and it turns out it’s the Microsoft Product Activation team. I’m a bit baffled as to why they’d be trying to get in touch with us in the first place.

Absolutely trustworthy - what you’ve got here is the service for activating Windows over the phone, which is particularly helpful when your version of Windows can’t sort itself out online. There are numerous factors that could be causing this hiccup. The number to dial, 0800 0188354, is indeed the genuine Microsoft activation hotline. If your PC prompts you to use this number, it’s essentially signalling that activation is necessary but has hit a snag through the usual online process. This is something that definitely needs addressing through the telephonic activation service.

A mate of mine received a call from a lady claiming to be from MS, insisting that she had some sort of virus or software glitch on her computer - the classic con, really. When my mate asked for a number to get back in touch, she provided 0900 018 8345. However, when my friend tried to check the number through 1471, it turned out that the caller had withheld their number. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!

Who might this be, then?

I keep receiving an annoying notification indicating that my Windows 7 needs to be re-activated. The pop-up provides a number, specifically 0800 018 8354, and even offers a drop-down menu to select my country.
Below this, a series of numbers appears, which I'm expected to read out in typical telephone activation fashion for Windows. Like many, I find it baffling why I'm facing this issue. When I purchased this computer, the serial number and activation key were clearly labelled and remain legible.
It surely seems off to me - and considering the feedback concerning this hotline, I'm starting to suspect something is amiss. Could anyone shed some light on whether this is yet another scam or if it holds more weight? I'm pestered by this message at least weekly, and it’s rather unsettling.
Best wishes,

I've been needing to activate my Microsoft XP, and it seems the only option left is to give them a call. Any thoughts on that?

We frequently rely on Microsoft Product Activation to configure our clients' Windows installations. Oddly enough, I received a call this morning at 8:30 (which happened to be during our afternoon respite!). Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer it as there was just silence on the other end. Perhaps there was a glitch in the system when these folks attempted to restart?
