The thing is, there wasn’t actually any phone number shown, so I tried ringing Microsoft myself. Turns out, it wasn’t them at all but scammers. They told me I had a Trojan virus called clampi and offered to connect me with a firm that could sort it out. This company was UK Infotech Technology, contact number 08000148095. I let them take control of my computer remotely and they wanted £144 sent by cheque. When I told them I didn’t have cheques, they suggested postal orders instead. That’s when I twigged this was a scam routine. I’ve since had a proper IT expert clean my machine, but this Alistair bloke keeps ringing me, leaving messages about the postal order payment.
