A message suddenly popped up on my screen claiming Microsoft had found a serious issue on my PC, warning me that switching it off would block the system and to call the number displayed. The thing is, there wasn’t actually any phone number shown, so I tried ringing Microsoft myself. Turns out, it wasn’t them at all but scammers. They told me I had a Trojan virus called clampi and offered to connect me with a firm that could sort it out. This company was UK Infotech Technology, contact number 08000148095. I let them take control of my computer remotely and they wanted £144 sent by cheque. When I told them I didn’t have cheques, they suggested postal orders instead. That’s when I twigged this was a scam routine. I’ve since had a proper IT expert clean my machine, but this Alistair bloke keeps ringing me, leaving messages about the postal order payment. He can forget it!

Got a call today from someone named John Smith claiming to be from Bank of Rangoon.

On the morning of the 1st Feb 2017, I called this number just to see what was going on. They told me to enter some code like [#]support{###], which I pretended not to understand. After that, they told me to press the Windows key and the letter 'r' together, but I just hung up. To me, that’s a dead giveaway that they’re up to no good. Now I’m planning to mess with them for a bit of fun. I get loads of scam calls and I usually answer by throwing out ridiculous insults like racist, sexist camel dung and tree-ape mother-goat, just to annoy them.

Watch out for this internet anti-virus scam! Never let these people get remote access to your computer, it's a total trap.

I dealt with this so-called company myself, but no way am I coughing up any cash. They claimed to be AVG since I found their number on the official AVG website. They said they could "sort" my problem but wanted around £200 for it. What was even wrong? I was just trying to contact AVG to ask why they switched my full AVG to the free version. I also contacted AVG and PayPal and hope they’re onto this dodgy firm. Terrible lot. I seriously doubt I even had a virus. Let them haul me to court over that £200, I’m ready.

So this lot claimed to be from AVG, told my elderly mum she'd got a virus on her computer that needed sorting by a specialist. Mum already paid for her licence, but they said it didn’t cover the fix. Then they passed her onto another company who supposedly could fix it for £200. After the “work” was done, a bill popped up on the screen asking for payment. We got a call with an address for sending a check and a first class stamp. Even after saying AVG wouldn’t deal with a third party, they kept ringing demanding payment, claiming they’d contact AVG for us. Still no word from them now.

My elderly dad just got caught out in the same way. They charged him £400 for setting up AVG antivirus that he didn’t really need. The firm’s called UK DTL from Deal in Kent - UK Daily Technology Limited. They’re on Companies House but haven't filed any tax returns. They put software on his computer that was supposed to belong to someone else, saying it was a lifetime deal. I checked with official AVG and they don’t recognise this company at all, plus their priciest plan is only £72.99 for three years. Advise anyone with older or vulnerable family members to be really careful. There are some truly nasty people around out there.

My old Nan got asked to send £400 too, they gave her the address GU15 4BS. It's a house in Camberley, Surrey, just in case anyone wants to know.

What a total con! They tricked my old mum into handing over £400, spouting some nonsense about hackers and spyware. She’s on a tight budget and thought they were actually helping her. If I ever catch these scammers, they’re gonna regret it.
