Some bloke rang up asking for me through my work name and claimed he was with the Regional Crime Prevention unit. When I grilled him about where he got my number and why he was ringing from a mobile, he suddenly acted like he couldn’t catch what I was saying. I then asked which region he was covering, and he just asked if I was still in London. Told him to erase my info and jog on. I’m hanging on to the number now, just in case he calls back - I’m well ready to have a bit of a laugh with whoever’s pretending to be from the so-called Regional Crime initiation team!

Got a call from some bloke claiming to be with the Huntingdon Crime Prevention mag. He was pushing me to advertise with them but couldn’t give me any details about what the ads would actually be until I signed up. I told him it sounded a bit dodgy, then he got a bit touchy and said I didn’t have to advertise if I didn’t want to, no big deal. They wanted £145 a year, which is £11 a month, quite pricey. He faked writing down my email but hung up before I could fix the mistake. Never got an email either. Kinda weird a mobile number was calling but it sounded like a proper call centre.

This is just a total con, nothing to do with police crime prevention at all. If you decide to join, you’ll probably get locked into a yearly contract that keeps renewing itself. In the end, you’re forking out twice as much and barely getting anything back, maybe just a tiny ad in some magazine that only lands in your hands.
