Somebody called claiming they were from BT and even mentioned a call I was supposed to get from them at 10 this morning. That call didn’t happen though, so I reckon someone at EE must be sharing info from BT.

Yesterday, 7th October, I received a call that disconnected right away. After that, I couldn’t access my call history or make any calls. I ended up heading to an EE store to dial 150 because all my outgoing calls got blocked. I have a feeling someone with good knowledge of EE might’ve been on the other line. Later, when my calls and contacts finally came back, I called the number again and got an answerphone saying it was EE calling and not to be concerned as they’d ring back.

I tried answering one of their calls through the Google Pixel screen feature and every time they just hung up. If this was a genuine call, they’d easily say who they are and why they’re calling. My advice? Just don’t pick up if they ring you. Real places like banks or doctors always say who they are upfront, so this definitely feels dodgy.

I wasn’t entirely convinced that the caller was actually from EE, but since I’d recently lodged a complaint with them, I decided to stay on the line, being really careful not to share any sensitive info. They only asked for my full name, address and mobile number, then sent me a PIN. They talked through the issue I had raised, so I’m pretty sure it was legit EE. I rang the BT broadband helpline and ended up speaking to someone they called an "Operator" but all he did was repeat info straight from the website. When I said I needed to talk to my partner first, he got pushy and insisted I pay immediately, saying I could cancel afterwards. Then he rang me back and I ended up giving him some personal info. He asked me to click a link sent by text, but it was for screen sharing, which is a well-known scam method to hijack your device, so I hung up right away.

I’m not, and never have been, an EE customer so this call clearly isn’t from them. I didn’t pick up but looked the number up to decide if I should. No idea if the number’s fake or not, but if you’re anything like me and checking online first, just be careful. Don’t trust all the positive reviews just above mine without a second thought.

I was sure it was a genuine call since I’d already contacted EE through their official support and was expecting their call. That said, I'd still be careful if this number calls you unexpectedly trying to sell something, as phone numbers can be faked, so it might not actually be them ringing.
