Got a robo call telling me my Amazon Prime had expired and they’d charged me £95 or something. Of course, if you listen longer, it wants you to “press 1” to sort it out, which is just a trick to either get you on an expensive line or steal your card info. Don’t fall for it - just hang up and block the number straight away!

This was definitely one of those automated calls, I reckon. After a brief pause, a woman with an Indian accent picked up. She just said hello, but didn’t say why she was calling. The line stayed open for like 15 seconds before it just cut off.

Got a call from 07944886374 with a recorded message about some dodgy activity on my Visa card. Classic scam stuff. What worries me is how they ask you to pick options that lead you into some sketchy place. The voice on the tape sounded like a proper British older gentleman, which makes it all sound a bit more legit. If you're unsure, best bet is to ring the customer service number that's on the back of your card.

Received a rather dubious call from someone claiming to be with "BT OpenReach." They inquired if I was aware of how to check my internet speed and insisted that it ought to be faster. They then led me on a merry chase to input something into my (non-existent) Google browser. When I questioned why I’d ever involve Google, this woman-who sounded Asian-asserted they were there to assist with updating my router's firmware. Upon querying who had directed them to call me, given that BT isn’t my provider, she persisted in saying that my provider had requested the outreach. When I pressed further, she promptly terminated the call. It was rather peculiar, as I couldn’t even dial out to retrieve the number using 1471 until I disconnected and rebooted my phone.

Received a rather dubious call purportedly from "BT OpenReach." The caller, a woman of Asian descent, enquired whether I was aware of how to check my broadband speed and suggested that it ought to be faster. She attempted to coax me into typing something into my (non-existent) Google browser. When I questioned the rationale behind using Google, she insisted it was to update my router's firmware. Upon probing further about who had instructed them to reach out, given that BT isn’t my internet provider, she responded that my actual provider had made the request. However, when I pressed her again, the line went dead. Oddly enough, I was then unable to dial out (even using 1471 to trace the number) until I did a bit of unplugging and re-plugging of my phone. Quite the bizarre experience!

I got one of those calls claiming there was a problem with my Amazon Prime payment - you know, the usual “Press 1 to sort it out” nonsense. Haven't had one in ages, so I was caught off guard. Sounds like some idiot bought a list of numbers from a scammer and now everyone's getting hassled. Total scam, be careful!
3 years
Got a voicemail from some bloke talking about a fee for online gambling in the States! Typical scam stuff like "press 1 to cancel the charge," sounds like they’re using a fake number. According to the info, the number belongs to EE Ltd - but I don’t even have an EE phone contract.
