Got a text claiming it’s from HMRC about some tax rebate I supposedly have waiting. Looks exactly like that dodgy message I saw earlier. Total rubbish, a proper scam. Don’t even bother visiting the site they mention!

Got a text from 13499963 claiming I was owed a tax refund. At first, I thought it was legit since I was actually waiting on a rebate last year from a different contact number. Luckily, I managed to recover most of what was lost, but I won’t fall for that trick twice. It’s worth remembering that HMRC mainly works through their official website and wouldn’t randomly send texts from some unknown mobile number. Best advice is to create an official HMRC account to verify any suspicious messages you get pretending to be from them.

got a text from someone saying "hmrc: our records say you got a tax refund waiting since 21/01/21. to get your payment, go to gov.uk-update.org" - sounds dodgy to me. hmrc always sends a proper p800 letter, never a text like that. avoid clicking the link!

Somebody rang me saying they were from HMRC about a tax refund. Didn't take any chances and hung up without pressing any links. Better safe than sorry!
