Got a message from this number saying exactly what others mentioned. Pretty obvious it’s a scam, so I just ignored it.

I got a message from 07942081059 saying it was my kid, texting from their new Apple Watch, telling me their new number was 07549427545. They even called me ‘mum’ in the message. They asked me to send a text so they could save my number. Thing is, I don’t have any kids at all, and I’m a bloke, not a mum. These numbers are almost certainly some sort of scam or phishing attempt.

Got a text from this number claiming to be my son using a new phone and asking me to respond so they can save my number. Problem is, I’ve got no kids at all. Obvious scam!

So I just got a message from this very same number, and it’s exactly like what someone else mentioned before. It was all weirdly written, something like “Hey mum, hoping you’re doing good - I’m texting from my Apple Watch since I got a Christmas upgrade, so my new number is 07549427545. Could you send me a quick text so I can save your details?” Honestly, it feels dodgy, and I reckon it’s connected to that other number folks have been warning about. Seems like some kind of scam or trick to me.
