Ringing back numbers you don't recognise is honestly pretty daft. Only someone really clueless or super trusting would do it. It might be some sort of Wangiri scam trick. These crooks generate millions of fake phone numbers with computers, and sometimes by chance the number you call back is an actual person’s, who’s got nothing to do with the scam. But then again, you might end up chatting with a proper criminal.

To the person who posted before me, I'd suggest you have a word with your phone company. When I called mine, they told me it wasn't a WANGRI scam because the call actually came through to me. They did answer, but they ended it straight away. Upon checking, my provider said it was a UK-based number and it's counted as part of my plan allowance. Feels less like a cloned number and more like some scammer attempting to threaten me with really nasty accusations about kids. Honestly, it's the first time I've felt genuinely spooked by a caller, so I ended up reporting it to the cops.

Got a call, but the person just hung up as soon as I picked up. I tried ringing back, but nobody bothered to answer. Then out of nowhere, some really irate bloke phoned me up, saying I’d called his kid’s phone. When I said I’d be taking this to the cops, he just cut the call straight away.
