Some bloke said he was from Citizen Advice trying to sort out debts on my credit file, had an Indian accent and was calling from a mobile. I've dealt loads with CAB in my town and they never ring from mobiles, plus nobody there has an Indian accent, they’re all proper English. Total con artist, don’t waste your time talking to him. I've told my local CAB office and passed on his number to them.

Got a call from someone called James claiming to be from Citizens Advice. He asked if I was aware of any debts I owed, I said I wasn’t, then he started asking about my Aviva life insurance. At that point I figured it was a scam and told him straight away. He then ended the call. It was at 4.10 pm on 8th Jan 2020 from the mobile number 7936682099.

It was obvious that I was dealing with a call centre, likely situated in India. The chap on the other end claimed to represent Citizens Advice working on behalf of the financial ombudsman. When I confronted him, pointing out that I was aware he was being dishonest and that I intended to block his number, he rather cheekily asked, "Before I leave, do you have any outstanding debts?" I promptly told him, "No, and you're now blocked," and he rudely disconnected the call. It's rather unsettling to think that someone less discerning could be taken in by such tactics, especially given the false claim of legitimacy from Citizens Advice.

I’d recommend reporting this number and the call to the police as well as to the NFIB. Just search for ‘Action Fraud’ and pick the ‘police.uk’ website, then click on the ‘reporting’ section to flag up the phishing scam. They don’t ask for any of your personal details, but there is an option to notify the NFIB too, which you should consider. If you accidentally shared any info, make sure you report it as a crime rather than just a phishing case.

This number called me and just ended the call, like they always do! I’m so fed up of these scams, it’s driving me mad. I honestly don’t want to keep a phone anymore, but I have to. From now on, I’m only going to use the 3 websites I trust and ignore every other call!!!

Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent claiming to be from Citizens Advice, saying she was calling on behalf of the government to check my information and give me debt advice. Since I barely owe anything, I figured it was just an attempt to fish for my personal info. Best to not share any details with these sorts of callers.

This number just rang me and thankfully my phone warned me it might be a scam. Some guy with a weird accent was trying to get me to confirm personal info, claiming he was from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and that the government needed to ask me some questions about debts. I told him to delete my info and that I’d report him, but he kept pushing, so I ended up telling him where to go.
