Got a call from someone at a call centre who actually knew my name. They said, "I’m not selling anything, just need 15 seconds and I’ll never bother you again." Then they repeated my name and even gave an address that wasn’t mine. I told them the details were off, they said sorry, and then they just cut the call. Feels like a classic data collection trick to me.

There was that typical call centre buzzing on the line, background chatter and all. A guy with a pretty strong foreign accent called and asked straight up for me by name. He told me he wasn’t selling anything and just needed 20 seconds of my time. Normally I’d just ignore unknown numbers, but seeing it was a UK mobile made me think it could be someone I knew, so I picked up.
