got these messages a few months apart - one was from some company saying "business user, take the new fiat 500x for a test drive this weekend, reply yes if interested or stop to opt out. fiat_uk" and then another from asda saying "congratulations! you've been selected for their weekly prize to win a £10 shopping voucher, reply yes to claim. expires 22/01/2016" both felt like typical spam but i never gave them any of my info or signed up for anything.

But seriously, how on earth did they manage to get hold of my first name? Glancing through other comments on this site, it seems their offers aren't terribly consistent. Bear in mind that the ICO can only take action if they have enough complaints, and the more complaints they gather, the more significant their impact will be in pursuing any action.

This morning, I've been getting calls from this number about Laser Eye Surgery, coming through every 3 minutes! The last one was around 11:30. I told them to stop contacting me, but somehow I still ended up with another 6 messages after that. Very annoying!

I’ve been getting texts from this number claiming I’m due for an upgrade on a Galaxy phone and tablet, saying it’s from Vodafone Red. It’s a complete con though, because when I popped into my local Vodafone store to check, they told me I’m not eligible for an upgrade for another 6 months and they definitely didn’t send that text. Luckily, I didn’t reply and it was a smart move - while I was there, a furious guy came in complaining about his bill. Turns out, he’d responded to the same message and ended up with a phone bill over £1600! He’s had to cancel his contract and Vodafone’s fraud team are now looking into it. So if you get this text, my advice is don’t respond under any circumstances.

This number sent me a text out of the blue, offering a FREE taster session at David Lloyd gym, no strings attached. I’m curious, how do they even get your first name to personalise the message? After reading some of the other comments here, it seems like their offers aren’t even the same each time. If you’ve had enough of these unsolicited texts, you might want to report them to the ICO.
