Someone called me saying I was accidentally given a PPI refund and wanted me to pay it back, but it was all made up.

Got a call from a woman trying to persuade me that I was due a tax refund related to PPI. She mentioned something about a payment from HMRC back in 2017. Problem is, I honestly can’t recall ever having anything to do with PPI that year. As a pensioner, I was advised long ago not to bother filling in tax forms unless something changes with my situation - which it hasn’t. After a bit of back and forth, I told her to just drop it altogether. She asked if she should "close the file," and I said yes, that’s fine.

I’ve been getting calls from a number almost the same as this one, it’s 07840 928876, and apparently it’s a scam. So I’m guessing this number is dodgy too. I usually don’t pick up unless I know the number anyway.
