We received the same text message, and it completely wiped our phone's memory-every last thing, including our photos, videos, ringtones, you name it. Vodafone mentioned that we need to stop responding to a message that we never initiated in the first place. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

We received the same message, and we know someone else who got it last month, too. To quote Marvin Gaye, "What's Going On?"

What on earth can we do to stop receiving these incessant messages? It's really becoming a bit of a nuisance, isn't it?

I've got one of these, but thankfully I've not been involved in any accidents myself. It seems they're banking on the likelihood that many others will have suffered mishaps.

Just received a text saying I might qualify for £3,750 due to some accident I was involved in. Apparently, all I need to do is reply with YES if I want to claim it for nothing. If I don't want to be bothered anymore, they say I should text ‘quit’. Quite the intriguing offer, isn’t it?

FREEMESG: According to my files, you could potentially claim £3,750 for the accident you were involved in. To initiate your claim at no cost, simply reply with YES to this message. If you'd prefer not to participate, text STOP. An accident I haven't actually experienced yet? Seems like a scam to me! I'm rather tempted to respond with a YES just to see what happens, but I think I’ll hold off for now.

Received the same message again today (3rd August). Had a car accident back in March and had to declare the vehicle as a write-off. Luckily, Direct Line settled the claim quite fairly, and I’ve since got myself a replacement motor. The only ones who had our mobile number were Direct Line (or RBS, as they’re linked) and their claims assessors. Quite annoyed to see this message pop up. I haven’t responded, and I’m now planning to delete it.

We find ourselves in a similar boat, albeit without having encountered any mishaps ourselves: it appears these individuals are banking on the assumption that a fair number of folks have met with unfortunate accidents.

To proceed with your claim at no cost, simply reply with YES to this text. If you wish to unsubscribe, just text quit." Quite the unusual encounter!

It seems I've received the very same dodgy message, and it looks like we're all in the same boat, each 'entitled' to a nice sum of £3750! How cheeky! The text popped into my phone at around 17:40 on the 29th of July, 2010, stating: FREEMSG: According to my records, you could claim £3750 due to an accident. If you wish to proceed at no charge, simply reply with YES. To unsubscribe, text STOP. Utter nonsense, if you ask me-just a load of spam!
