So I picked up the phone and some robotic voice claimed it was HMRC saying there was dodgy stuff happening with my NI number and that legal action was coming unless I answered their questions. I just ended the call immediately. Then I rang HMRC myself, and they told me they never phone people directly. If there’s ever an issue with your NI number, they send a letter, not a phone call.
