Increased Complaints Around 07623 Numbers Spark Concerns

In recent months, alarming reports from individuals across the UK have emerged regarding the use of phone numbers starting with 07623. Many have described unsettling interactions often resembling scams or spam calls. The distress calls frequently come adorned with recorded messages that quickly raise suspicions.

Suspicious Calls Claiming Bank Security

One user reported on 18th December 2024 that they received a call from “bank security” with an automated message detailing unusual charges on their bank card. The recorded voice urged the recipient to either approve the transactions by pressing 1 or to press 2 for further assistance. Despite the urgency implied in the message, the recipient hung up after realising the potential risks involved, blocking the number immediately due to concerns over premium rate charges. Describing the outcome as a necessary precaution, they noted the likelihood of further fraud attempts associated with such calls.

Misleading Messages About the Home Office

Another incident on the same day, 19th April 2024, saw users alarmed when a caller claimed to be from the Home Office. The individual recognised that the call was likely a scam, suspecting that the familiar tone and format of the automated message were cleverly crafted to deceive. A similar theme unfolded with messages in an American accent stating that there were issues with the recipient’s passport. Many are left questioning the authenticity of such calls, wary of falling victim to impersonation scams.

Premium Rate Number Frightens Recipients

Another report from the same date revealed an unpleasant surprise when a user attempted to return a missed call from a number beginning with 07623. Upon dialling back, the recipient learned they needed to pay for the call as it was a premium rate number. They quickly hung up, expressing disbelief that a legitimate business would use such a number to contact customers. An ongoing theme suggests that many believe the trend of using premium numbers is primarily to financially exploit unsuspecting individuals.

Ranging from Annoying to Worrying

Feedback gathered over the months highlights a growing frustration with the 07623 series. Some have reported simply finding these calls annoying, while others are genuinely worried about the potential threat of fraud. A user bluntly stated they received an “annoying caller” on 5th September 2024, clearly highlighting the widespread dissatisfaction with such calls.

Many thanks indeed! Being British, I realised straight away that the call couldn't possibly be from the Home Office. However, the voice on the line sounded remarkably like an authentic automated message. Quite puzzling, really!

Received a call from 07623 709167 earlier, and upon picking up, I was greeted by a pre-recorded voice in an American accent stating there was an issue with my passport.

I received a missed call from the number 07623 734768, so I decided to return the call. To my surprise, it turned out to be a premium rate line, and it wasn't covered under my inclusive minutes. I promptly disconnected, as I doubt a genuine caller would be using a premium rate service. Seems rather dodgy to me!
