I’m from Salford and ended up getting scammed by some bloke calling himself Connor from a firm named ‘Elite Driveways’. After we agreed to have some decking done, three lads turned up and just started digging a bit of a hole for the groundwork. They asked me for cash upfront for materials, promising to come back in a day or two to finish the decking. After that, they vanished completely. I checked his Checkatrade profile and Instagram, and both the numbers he called me from (07555018513 and 07768298581) were switched off. He stayed off the radar for about a month, then suddenly phoned me from a different number (07511737413) claiming there’d been a bereavement and that he’d shut his account because his ex was leaving fake reviews. My bank said it was probably a scam but refused to refund me, which I don’t quite understand. I’ve also reported everything to the police.
