This number has rung me up three times within the past day, each time claiming to be from Southwark council about a supposed water issue in my building. They then direct me to a Southwark council website to find out more and ask me to press 1 to confirm I’ve heard the message. For starters, Thames Water is the one responsible for water problems, not the council. Also, my water’s fine, so it doesn’t add up. Plus, why would they really need me to press 1? Feels like a scam trying to get me to press a button that’ll probably land me with a massive phone bill. Don’t fall for it!

Southwark Council sends an automated call whenever there's an issue with things like the heating, lifts, or hot water in your block. At the end of the message, they ask you to press 1 to confirm you’ve heard it. Once you do that, the calls stop coming through.
