Got a call the other day from a different number, this time a polite woman named Shelley who said she was from The Advice Centre in Henley on Thames. It felt like one of those dodgy scams about reclaiming money from a timeshare we ditched over 16 years ago. She promised to send me some info, but that never came through. When I told her I wasn’t interested, she kept pushing about how we might be owed a big refund. Eventually, I just ended the call and blocked the number.

I thought it was my builder ringing, so I picked up. Right away, it switched over to a number that seemed to be from America. When I tried to end the call, a woman answered and started with some typical scam talk, but I quickly hung up after she said very little. I’m certain I’ll end up with some huge bill because of that brief chat. These phone scams are such a pain and really mess with everyday folks. It’s about time our politicians, who seem to do very little for their pay, actually did something to stop this rubbish for good.

Seems like call centres are using mobile numbers these days to increase the chances that you’ll actually pick up.

I picked up and a bloke asked for me using my full official name, not the nickname I usually go by, so I figured he must have found me through some sort of database. I told him that the person he was after had moved away and I’d taken over. He said that was no problem and he might as well chat to me, which already sounded a bit dodgy. Just as he was beginning his spiel, I cut in to remind him I wasn’t the one he wanted. He soon gave up and ended the call. Probably some sales pitch or survey attempt. Number’s blocked now.

I saw I had a missed call from this number, so I tried ringing back, but it said ‘number is not in service’ or something like that. Bit strange really.
