Got a call at my mother in law’s from a woman claiming to be from the HMRC legal tax department. She said there was a case involving some debts against her. My mother in law told her she didn’t owe anything and then ended the call, but it really unsettled her. We’ve now reported it to Action Fraud.

My husband got a call around half past twelve today, and like you said, it was the same scam. He got a bit confused and ended up telling them our address and his date of birth. But when they asked for his National Insurance number, I knew straight away it was dodgy 'cause he wouldn’t have that info handy. Luckily, he just ended the call quickly after that.

This number rang my 87 year old mum the other day. She hit 1 and gave them her birthday but told them she didnt have a national insurance number. The lady on the phone then said mum owed money and there was a warrant for her arrest. Mum told her to send a letter and to send the cops if they wanted, she knew she wasnt in debt to anyone. The caller said they were from HMRC but it was obvious they were trying to scam her.

Just like others have said, this is clearly a scam call. I rang the tax office myself and they confirmed there’s no case or anything going on with my details. It’s obviously an attempt to get your personal info to misuse it in some way. The caller had an Asian accent, so I’m guessing it might be coming from somewhere in South Asia, though the number they showed was a bit dodgy. Best thing is to stay well clear of this number and block it if possible. Don’t engage with them at all.
