7 yearsI received a rather peculiar phone call from a chap who introduced himself as "Abraham Lincoln," complete with a rather thick accent. He claimed to represent a telecom company and was requesting some details regarding my phone number. I couldn't help but point out that his name reminded me of someone rather noteworthy! He laughed and mentioned it was akin to a character from the Flintstones. Quite amusing, really. However, I kept the conversation brief as it's crystal clear this was a scam. To add to my suspicion, I realised this was the second time they’d tried to reach me, having explicitly asked them to refrain from calling again just the day prior. They had my name and number already, which isn’t surprising given my line of work. However, the ludicrousness of their fake identities raised red flags, especially since they claimed to be affiliated with O2. I mean, O2 would reach out directly, not rely on some dodgy third party for such matters.
