Got the exact same text sent to me. I checked my Gumtree ad, and surprisingly, it doesnt even show as viewed. That makes me think there’s a link between Gumtree and Fatlama. Seems like the moment you put up your ad, Gumtree passes your phone number straight over to Fatlama. Has anyone else spotted this? Feels like they’re either trying to push their Fatlama brand more or maybe they’re looking to sell insurance using this method. Strange stuff.

Has anyone else spotted that Gumtree seems to be linked with Fatlama? As soon as you put up your ad on Gumtree, your phone number somehow ends up with Fatlama straight away. Feels like they’re either pushing Fat Lama to sell it or maybe using it as a way to pitch insurance behind the scenes. Bit odd if you ask me.

Got a message from this number after I put my camera on Gumtree. Rather than selling it, I decided to rent it out and ended up making just as much money as if I’d sold it, plus I still have the camera!

Every time I've tried selling something on Gumtree, I get bombarded with these dodgy calls! Proper rubbish site for ads. People pretending to want to rent stuff just to scam you - absolute nightmare. You’d think after so many complaints, the website would block those numbers, right? Nope, they let it slide. I reckon it’s because everyone involved is off on the take, making a tidy bit of cash under the table.

So this happened, I got a call saying I had won a boat. While I was on the phone, I quickly ran to the loo and they ended up hearing the flushing sound at the other end. Quite funny really!

Got a message from someone wanting to rent my HTC Vive through Fatlama[###]. I thought I'd better check the number on Google first, and turns out it’s a complete scam. Honestly, don’t even bother replying or getting involved with them.

I got a message from this number again today, pretty much the same one. I asked them what they wanted to rent and for how long, then told them to give me a better offer and I might consider it. They replied saying 4 or 5 days for £15. I was about to respond but thought I'd better look up the number first, and then I saw all these comments here. Glad I looked it up before replying. Had the exact message come through to me too. It said something like "re: [first bit of listing title]. would it be possible to rent this? i can get it all insured via fatlama[s##)." Bit of an odd ask, so i'm pretty sure it's just a dodgy auto promo for that fatlama(###] site. If you get one of these, definitely report it to gumtree and the ads standards folks.

At 6 in the morning, this number messaged me about renting something I put on Gumtree, they even brought up insurance out of nowhere. It felt really dodgy because if someone genuinely wants to buy your stuff, why would they start talking about insurance? I reckon it’s a scam, stay clear!

Right after I put my advert up on Gumtree, I got a text straight away saying something like, ‘can I rent this? I could do it insured through fatiama[###]’. Bit of a weird ask honestly, made me laugh. It’s so frustrating having to deal with these kinds of messages from Gumtree, I’d never put my phone number up there again. There’s tons of random spam like this. Hilarious if it’s meant to be some promo or scam though, they can’t even spell the name of their own site right - llama or something!

I’d just pressed send on my Gumtree ad when I got a message asking if I could rent it, saying something about being insured through fatlamal###]. No way they saw the listing, must be some auto message. Looks like a scam or maybe just spam. People have been saying the same thing from various numbers. Just be careful and don’t get caught out.
