I got a call with a weird long silence and then some beeping before the line just went dead. When I rang back, I heard an American dial tone. Next thing, I got another call from someone named Dave, who said he was calling from India. He somehow already knew my name and was pushing to “consolidate loans”. When I asked who he was, he wouldn’t give a proper answer and hung up straight away. Definitely not a legit call.

Picked up the phone, and all I could hear was a busy call centre noise in the background. After a bit of awkward silence, I told them their mum’s a proper idiot, then they cut me off. Received a rather dubious call from someone purporting to represent the British Medical Association, supposedly to update my information. When I pressed him on the reasoning behind the BMA reaching out in this manner, he mentioned it was for my "safety." I couldn't help but ask why they were making these calls from a mobile phone instead of a more formal line. He quickly dismissed my concerns, claiming that it was merely a standard procedure for all calls to be routed this way. I continued to probe, particularly about the need for the BMA to refresh my details for reasons of safety, and casually mentioned my NHS employment. He didn’t take kindly to that and promptly disconnected the call. Quite odd, isn’t it?

My phone flagged the call as “maybe spam,” and this is the second call like this I’ve had in two days - different number this time, but the last one was some woman asking about my Covid vaccine and life insurance, so I kind of guessed what was coming. I really wanna find out how they got hold of my name and number.

I've been dealing with this nuisance for more than six months now. Almost daily, I receive calls from various numbers linked to a call centre based in Pakistan. Most of these callers are quite aggressive, demanding payments and even threatening me with arrest by the FBI, or claiming to represent the Medical Council, among other things. What baffles me is that I’m situated in England, so I can’t quite fathom why they'd invoke the FBI in their threats! 😂 Regardless, this incessant harassment is quite alarming, and despite my efforts, the calls keep pouring in.

Got a call from this number recently. A guy with an Indian accent said his name was Sam and claimed he was ringing from Legal and General. He already knew my name and wanted to discuss life insurance. I told him I wasn’t happy chatting about that over a mobile call and that I’d get in touch with my provider myself. He then tried to explain that Legal and General don’t use landline numbers. When I asked for his last name, he questioned why I needed his personal details. That’s when I thanked him and ended the call!
